Bowling? A Sport?

You can only post if you own your own ball, haven't rented shoes in a decade, have a "night" designated, are missing some teeth &/or own a pick-up truck. You must drink until sh*t faced more than once a week as well. Yes, nothing screams "athlete" like that guy on lane 4 who's rolling a 200 game while piss-drunk. Seriously, you want entertainment? Just go to a bowling alley with a tape-recorder every Friday night and listen to the conversations. I went to a pre-nup party recently at a bowling alley. The group next to us was discussing whether or not to get Alabama tickets and the size of gas tank in their trucks and what the significance of a "belgian" waffle is vs. the "toaster" kind they eat. Totally obliterated and sexually mauling each significant other with every turn, these "athletes" threw 650+ between the two couples.
I was riveted.

I heard a guy on Jim Rome say that a sport should be considered something where another person is trying to impede what you are trying to do.

Not true. I have held my beer while playing outfield before. Batting was a little more difficult though.

anyone that says otherwise has NO idea what it takes, what is involved or how they compete.
Totally a sport (and one of the most loyal HUGE fan bases in the world. they may nascar fans seem like fairweather fans!)

For most experienced bowlers with decent ability, posting an occasional 200+ is almost a given. For anybody to actually have an AVERAGE probably of at least 220, and be able to bowl several games at that level to place well in the premier tournaments and actually make smoe money, requires a level of physical skill and training that should easily qualify it as a sport.
