ANR strikes again!

raycycaraycyca Posts: 1,751 ✭✭✭
I found out what happened to my bid! It was NOT executed! ANR received my bid, placed it on my account list, BUT, didn't honer it in Florida!! They gave away the coins to the lower bidder. I bid 25% higher, BUT they won the lot due to ANR ineptitude!! Nice way to start with a company, hugh?! That was my first and LAST time ever with them!!! Ray

I'm just curious how you found out what happened with the bid. If you had a discussion with a rep at ANR, how do you think both parties could have come to a mutually agreeable solution to the problem? Was that discussed?

How do you think the seller might react to knowing the coin sold for far less than it might have?

You say ANR received your bid. How was it submitted to them? Mail? And when did they receive it?

Big mistake. No one is classier and more professional than ANR. What was your lot #? I can go ask them today. Call me on my cell. PM sent with cell #.

This is "BigDave" all over again. Instead of searching for a constructive response with ANR, trash them on the message board.

What the others said. If you haven't talked to them to discuss your options yet, you should do that before you order up a crucifixion on a public message board. Give them a chance to respond and react.

Sorry about your experience with ANR. I never dealt with them till the Prescott auction before FUN. I went to see some lots before the auction and they were shown to me quickly. The bidding was very easy and I won one lot. I couldn`t make it to lot pickup but went to the show to pay for it. The young man was very nice and polite, and found I over paid by $100. I also got a return email from Chris Karsted explaining how my lot would be shipped to me. Sorry your experience was bad, but my first experience was great. THANKS, ANR.
  • Actually they've been around almost 3 years now haven't they? Hardly a start up. But anyway, I like them and if I've done my bidding right, everything goes ok.

ANR is one of the most honorable (if not the most honorable) of all the auction houses. It might have been a mistake (yes, they do happen), but this is NOT indicative of the company.

Is this a "post and run" from raycyca?

ANR is tops in my book. There are many times my bids are not accepted but that is only because I tend to bid live at a few minutes before the auction lot goes live. I know my bid may not reach there auction computer in time. I am well aware of this and I know I am taking a chance and know the risks involved, but this is how I like to bid. Unless I really want a coin, I place a bid well in advance which will show up on my account auction list. I am sorry that you bid was not executed but they are really a top notch auction house.

Instead of complaining about ANR here, a wiser decision would be to call them and try to resolve your issues directly with them. Complaining about ANR on the PCGS website will not solve anything.

I had the pleasure of meeting the kind folks at ANR for the first time in Orlando today, and I have yet to meet a more respectful or professional group of people.

My sense is that they will do right by you Ray, if you give them the chance to do so. Call them on Monday and I'm confident they will make the situation right...Mike

If you registered with ANR auctions near the auction time maybe there was not time to approve you for bidding. Just a thought.
I collect Capped Bust series by variety in PCGS AU/MS grades.

Every transaction I've had with ANR has been top notch. Pay heed to the advice given by your fellow "forumites" and contact them.

No post and run from me, ever! I had to work, just got off. I'm a night shift registered nurse. Some 12 hour shifts run 18-20 hours, especially with traumas and codes going on, right ER? I registered about two weeks before the auction and was approved right away. So much for those theories, I'm NOT trying to mean to ANYONE, including ANR!! They simply dropped the ball. According to Cynthia, their leading auction person, they didn't process the bid correctly and they don't know why. They are investigating. I WILL post what becomes of it, good or bad. If it works out for the better, I will be the FIRST to make a public appollogy.

Why am I so upset? There were 11 different Kennedys in the lot. A couple were upgrades for my wifes set, I already have had the updates reserves from a fellow Kennedy collector so the grades are not the issue. Two of the issues are: the coins were all toned. My wife is NOT a collector because she thinks that coins are boring! They are only good if you can spend them! She has taken a fancy to rainbow toned Kennedys since they are pretty. She also is collecting them because at least we have the same series in common, so she can compare the grades, etc with me, This way she has an idea of a little what I do. Take a look at her set under the PCGS registry, she is listed as Golden Girl's Kennedys, this is because of her blond hair, easy to u nderstand.

The second problem is the mishandling of the bid. If I handled a bid and entered it improperly, would I be held accountable? You bet I would! Just like many that have complained (dare I say this, or should I be politically correct and voiced their displeasure?!) here on the boards! My bid was not placed as a live bid, but well before the cuttoff deadline. If I had bid $10,000 on a $100 coin just as the coin was ending, I would have to and have, once, not that much. Just before Christmas, I paid almost $2000 for 3 gold coins that I didn't want because I made a mistake in bidding.

I trust David Bowers as my family has been dealing with him since he was with Bower's and Ruddy. Anyone remember them? You will here from me again on this subject when I find out the end story. Thanks for letting me vent! Ray image

Ray - I am glad that you had already called ANR about this issue. The problem here is that your initial post gave few details and then you disappeared for a while (for a good reason). In a place such as this, you must carefully manage the sensitive threads you create or they will evolve in ways unexpected.

Additionally, what did you hope to accomplish when you aired this situation with ANR here? You are understandably disappointed by your loss, but you are not a child. Did ANR respond to your complaint in an inappropriate manner? Did they give you the brushoff? I don't discern that from your followup post. How a person responds to disappointment and difficult situations is very important.

Put yourself in the position of ANR for a moment -- if you can muster this bit of largesse. Imagine how much you could have done in their shoes. Imagine how you would have felt being publicly lambasted over a mistake with which you've had limited time to investigate. How would you feel being held to the unrealistic standard of 100% perfection?!?

I don't know you at all -- aside from our mutual presence here. I can only assume that you are as upstanding of an individual as I. The Internet makes it easy for folks to have knee-jerk venting sessions, something that doesn't easily happen in real life. Please accept my suggestion that before you hit the "send" button of any post created in haste, anger or frustration - that you think and re-think your post. Take a moment, take a breath, then decide again if you really want to send that post.

As for ANR, I have nothing but the highest regard for them. I like them personally, and I like them professionally. They are, however, an organization of people who fall short of 100% perfection. In spite of their being honest, hardworking people, I endorse them totally and without reservation.
