9,000,000 card graded

There is a story in the news section about the 9,000,000 card graded. It was given cert number 09000000. PSA must hold some cert numbers in reserve as I have numbers higher than that one. How does this fit into to peoples assertions that each grader has there own 3 digit number associated with there cards?

it has to be marketing. My last couple of submissions have started with 123 and 301. The 9 millionth card is 09000000. I don't get it. Have you ever seen # 08999999. <shrug>

...The selected PSA Certification Number 08999999, was not found in the PSA Certification Database. If you believe this to be incorrect, please check the number and try again.

I don't think one individual grader has 000, either:

Do you think it was a coincidence that the 9 millionth card is a PSA 10 1954 Topps Baseball card as opposed to a PSA 2 Fleer Hockey card??

To give PSA the benefit of the doubt ...... that 9000000 cert number is probably symbolic only. We all know submitters and graders alike have their own identifying certs ...... if this indeed was the 9 millionth card graded it is understandable to tag the card with 9000000. Of course, I agree with the question about whether THIS 1954 PSA 10 was REALLY the card or just the APPROPRIATE card closest to the magical mark.

In the end, who really cares image

    Good job PSA!

hey, I'd be very happy if I owned the card that happened to be 09000000.

Why did they make such a big deal out of 9,000,000?? Was this done for 1,000,000 or 5,000,000?

They've made a big deal for the last few million, I think, for every millionth card graded. It invariably is a top condition card and incredibly rare - and it just makes the news that much more exciting!
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • It's a neat marketing ploy, but what are the odds of getting two significant PSA 10's as the 8 and 9th million cards?

    1 in a million?

That's kind of the point. To make a nice public relations splash - they kind of take one of the nicest cards currently being graded - and make that significant card the "X millionth" graded. Yes - it is a bit of a ploy, but it's good for the hobby, IMHO.
