My Philippine pocket change find

Actually it was very easy to find Philippine coins because I was in the Philippines during the holiday season. Most coins get lots of use so I was happy to find a brand new, shiny coin. With 53 Pesos to the dollar this 5 Piso coin is worth less than a dime.

They actually use 25 sentisimo coins but nobody bothers with the smaller denomination coins. 1 and 10 Pesos are common, the 10 is a bimetallic coin. From 20 peso on up Bills are used. It was fun to give out 20s to the Christmas Caroler's. It is a tradition for people to go around in groups from house to house the night before Christmas singing. While sitting out in front of the house we listened, drank a bit and handed out 20s. It was fun.

Nice to see you over on this side, Carl!

That's why I don't understand why the U.S. doesn't make the Sac dollar of the same material because they stay nicer longer.

You were in the Phils for New Year's? Why didn't you call???
Wherever you were, I bet it was loud!!!
Here's a look at the rest of the circulating denominations:
Last year I found some 5 sentimo coins like your 10 but a tad smaller with a hole in the middle. I have a 25 sentimo here. The smallest I got in change was a 25. I noticed people rounding down my change to the nearest peso but I never said anything because I didn't care.
I was there for both Christmas and New Years. Where I was there was no organized fireworks. But there were more fireworks than here in the US. Everybody buys tons of different rockets and so on. They start practicing a few days ahead of time. Many folks, us included, had left over fireworks after midnight. So we just kept on firing them off. People finished off their stashes on New Years day. You can buy big rockets and just about what ever you want over there. Wild!
