What does PSA do with all those Card Savers?

I was thinking the other day (I try not to do that too much image) as I filled out a 75-100 card submission to send in to PSA for grading, "What happens to the Card Savers that I, and thousands of other, use to send cards in to PSA?" Now call me crazy but those little things aren't that cheap are they? I think I picked up a couple more 50ct. packs the other day and they were like $4 plus per pack. Not expensive at all if your just using 50, 100, etc. But what if your having lots of cards graded. So I did some quick math, (once again I try not to do that to much), and that equals about $0.08 (8 cents) per card saver (give or take). Now for most that use PSA's grading services this probably is irrelevant because you probably don't send in hundreds or thousands or cards to get graded. But some guys have had thousands and thousands of cards graded in recent years and that can get kinda pricey just for those little things. If you've had 1,000 cards graded that's $80 just for those card saver. (And I know if your having 1,000 cards graded you're already spending $5,000-$15,000 but still that's $80 down the drain). Don't you think PSA should send those back to you when your cards ship back? Maybe I'm crazy to think this. I do understand that it probably would be very difficult to do, especially to get the same exact ones that you sent the cards in with, but couldn't they just throw the appropriate number in when they get ready to ship your cards back to you? Where do all those thousands of card savers go? Do they throw them all away? Are they packaging and re-selling them in some big conspiracy/cover up?image Somebody let me know if I'm out of my mind again or if anyone else has ever thought of this.

  • I was thinking the samething the otherday. I think that most if not all of them get cut to remove the card(s). Then they melt them down to make Hyundai's image)

BTW, you can get them for about 3 cents each if you buy in bulk.

Funny, I had that thought the other day when I saw PSA just graded it's 9 millionth card. That's about $720,000 worth of card savers. I think they may have been buried by an avalanche of them as I'm still waiting for an early December submission to come back to me.

The thought has crossed my mind a few times. I wonder if PSA uses them at shows.

I got my first chance to use a nail gun about 6 months ago. Honestly, it was everything I had hoped and more. It would almost be worth it to buy one and a bunch of old railroad ties and just hang out in the yard shooting nails.

I doubt it would ever get old.

    Ok, back to the question.

Doesn't everybody put those stickers on them anyway, or am I the only idiot that does that. Who would want a Card saver with the handwritten labels.

this is another good point ,I used to write my labels but started using the avery labels. go to there web site down load a template , and all you have to do is : find /replace your submisision # in excel everytime you need labels and print. saves a TON of time!

Yeah, most everybody does use the handwritten labels, but it takes a second max to pull those labels of the Card Savers. They come right off. And if your like me your sending in brand new ones straight from the package so they are still shiny new. Would be easy to resell them to the companies that manufacture or sell them to card collectors. All I'm trying to figure out is what happens to those things after you, we, I send them in with the cards in them? Like somebody else said if PSA has graded 9 million cards and each one of those little suckers costs between .03-.06 cents (that's the cost if you bulk order them) or whatever then that's between $270,000 and $540,000 that is not being reimbursed to the customers (us). It's not really a big deal to me, but it is kinda an interesting thing to think about. Somebody said that PSA graders cut the Card Savers to get the cards out. Is their any truth in that? Just seems to me that PSA would find a way to collect and repackage those things and maybe sell them or give them back to the customers who submit them on a regular basis. Again, not really a big deal if you only submit 50, 100, etc. cards in your life time, but imagine if you've submitted thousands and thousands of cards. $270,000-$540,000 is alot of cheddar image
