SportsCards.Info Update

So, the good news is that I passed the NY and CT bar exams. The great news is that I can now start working on my sportscards information site again.

I spent a decent chunk of change on a new script and added a new functionality. You can find it at http://www.sportscards.info/community.

The first 100 people to register and send me, jmullen, a personal message (PM) with their address will receive in the mail a pre-1970 odd-ball card from a set that I rarely come accross (actually only the first 50 or so will get a card from that set, for the others I'll have to dig stuff up).

Also, if you want to hold one of the non-basketball sites, let me know (i.e., baseball, football, hockey, boxing). It would require frequent emails to me of "news" in the hobby so that I can update the site. On every post I'd include your name and email (i.e., News by: _______). I could even set you up with an email addy. Right now, the only really awesome site is the basketball one.

  • Not sure if you are aware but there is also a site titled sportscardinfo.com
  • SouthernCards,

Sportscardinfo.com is a good site for new stuff (hobbyinsider.net is another one for new stuff). My goal is to develop a good solid vintage community.
  • ok just checking...since the names were so close.
  • Yeah,

I've even offered $10k for sportscards.com, but the owner wanted more than $100,000!
  • 10 of the 100 cards taken. I'm going to throw in a few Kahn's cards too (which, as you know, are pretty expensive cards).

  • i registered on your site just now.. i am not sure how to send you a PM could you email me so i can give you my address?

Once you are registered on his site,
    click on "Member List"
when the member list comes up, scroll down to him (jmullen)
    click on "jmullen"
when his profile comes up on the screen, click on "send a private message to jmullen"
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

  • Dave,

Yeah, I need to recode the forum to have a link to the main site. A lot of people were confused by this and thought the forum was the main site (when the forum is by no means any significant part of the site).

To get to the site just type in www.sportscards.info and click on the basketball page. This is the only developed section of the bunch but has been around for about 3 years (used to be called vintagebasketballcards.info).

In other news, 30 of the 100 cards have been spoken for. I'm going to try to start mailing them on Monday.

In yet more recent news, Rob Lahammer and I have decided to press on with our guide and are going to try and hire someone to do the monkey work of setting up the guide. As most know, Rob and I are combining our collections to make a vintage basketball guide that has pictures of the front and back of every pre-1970 basketball card. When all is said and done, there will be pictures of 35-70 (depending on just how many we include) sets not even listed in Standard's or Beckets annual.

Jeff, Hi. I provided you with the uncut sheet photos. Can you email me a picture of the 1971 tall boy test card? Thanks, John.

    jmoran19j@hotmail.com

Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972

  • John, Jeff the moron brought his camera three years ago when he visited the person that has it, but left his memory stick at home. Thus, I do not have any pictures of the tall boy test. Since then the tall boy test was sold for huge money. There are two Tall Boy tests though. The first is a Chamberlain the second is ... ahhh ... forget his name. Rookie year was 1971 (that is why we think its a '71 tall boy test).

Anyway, I do know who has the card and will try to get a pic (I've offered $100 for a pic of the chamberlain). I do not know who owns the other known tall boy test.

  • I started getting the cards ready for mailing. For the first lot, I chose some of my dupes from the 1974 Fleer series called "The Shots." I'm missing a few cards from this set, if you have ones I need, I'll pay $5 a pop (in any condition). I don't know much about this set and I've only come across two lots in the past few years. I'm not sure if its guided or not. Most of the cards are stained to some degree (not sure if its bubblegum or not).

Right now 40/100 cards are taken.

    Comments?
  • Just put another little promotion up on SportsCards.info. The first 18 to reach 150 posts get mailed a pack of 2005-2006 SPX.

In other news, Mike Mosier's finally posted up his items on columbiacitycollectibles.com. One of the best vintage oddball dealers on the planet.
  • Hey everybody, I've been "lurking" here for quite a while, and I want to thank you all for the knowledge I've gained. I just recently got back in to the hobby and a lot has changed. If you haven't checked out Jeff's site yet you really should, it's put together very well. Oh yeah if you register tell him that superstar797 referred you so I can get some free stuff.
  • Just another FYI, since i've had an onslaught of vintage people sign up (which is exactly what I want), I needed to get more stuff to give away. So, the next 180 people that sign up get a free pack of 2005/2006 Topps Total Basketball mailed to them when it is released in February. This is great because I want to start breaking cases to see how cards are distributed these days. Especially, since my next beckett article will deal with vintage uncut sheets and how you can use them to search vintage packs without opening the vintage packs.

Also, I should have some new vintage basketball articles up on my site at the end of the weekend -- I'm posting all of the ones I wrote for Beckett (about 25 in all). They have given me permission to post the ones that have already been published.

Lastly, I traded away my 1957 basketball pack. Thus, no opening it at the National this year.
