However, if it weren't for Dino UK blowing everyone else away in a thermonuclear manner, I would have had a tough time. I think phut's 1847 half dime would've been my first pick, followed closely by IHM's 1877-CC dime.
The others deserve attaboys, but the gold takes the cake.

One time for the weekend.
<< <i>Voted for the 1/2 Dime because it's not really fair to throw in someone that hunts in the UK with US hunters. They would outdo us every time. Only about 2000 more years of coinage! Consider a forgien coin category. >>
I've been thinking about this myself too.. I was a bit reluctant to enter my 1593 coin some time ago for this very reason. Not UK caliber, but quite old by US standards nonetheless.
Having said that, I don't think ancient gold is a common find in the UK either (based on the number of coins known etc).. I try to 'calibrate' my voting by country to take these factors into account.
To make it up to you all, I shall have a competition for one of you to win a Medieval hammered silver coin...a true, dug piece of UK history.
I shall post the competition on Sunday, and let it run for a few days. It will be a true chance thing, so everybody has an equal chance of winning it.
I have been doing my best everytime out with the detector, but not yet. I still have just about a month and a half to find one though.
For all of those who don't know, LM gave me a homework assignment when I first got my detector. He told me that I had to find a roman coin and a hammered silver. Half of the assignment is completed with the completely worn Roman that I found, but still searching for the hammered.
