Second UPDATE. Are these photos of the same coin? - UPDATED Scam Alert

These are the seller's images from two separate EBay auctions, ending at different times. Is it my imagination, or do they both show the same coin? The seller hasn't responded to an inquiry sent more than 24 hours ago.

Yes, it's the same coin. The small lines under the second "L" and "R" in "DOLLAR" are the identical.

There is a tiny micro rim tick just to the right of the twelve o' clock position.

    Same coin, same picture.

If both are for sale by the same seller, it might just be an honest mistake with the URL. If there are different sellers, something hinky is goin' on.

  • This and this are two auctions listed by eBay seller rdrileyred, claim to be for separate genuine Meiji 10 (1877) Trade Dollars. As clearly demonstrated by the following exchange initiated through the “Ask Seller a Question” function on one of the auctions, both are fake, if in fact there are really two. The photos at both auctions are identical, although neither of the auctions makes a disclaimer that the displayed photo is not the coin in question.

Original question asked of rdrileyred by satootoko: What are the actual gram weights and millimeter diameters of this coin and the other Meiji 10 Trade Dollar you have listed?

Reply received from rdrileyred by satootoko through the eBay My Message function: both trade dollars are the same 20.5 grams and 39mm
    thanks dan

Repply by satootoko to rdrileyred: I trust that you will now do minimal research and confirm that your 'coins' are replicas, not original, since the genuine coins weigh 27.2grams! I might have gambled on them if I hadn't noticed that you were using the same picture for both auctions. • LOL he ended the listing.

It's definately the same and there is no way that is a genuine coin. I would be much happer if he said he had no idea if it's a genuine or not.

Looks like the seller pulled both of them off of Ebay.
