T. Munson and B. Martin autos - legit?

I bought these from a metro NY card shop in the late 70s. I had forgotten about them until my dad brought out an album of cards that I had left at my parents. These photos are approximately 4 x 5.

Thought I would get some board member's opinions on if these look authentic. Under magnification you can see that the autograph is not pre-printed on the photo, it is some kind of Sharpie type marker. The ink shows through on the back of the Munson photo. The only thing that makes me skeptical is that the signatures look perfect., but I have no reason to think the store would sell a fake. The PSA/DNA fee is $75 for Munson and $50 for Martin so I just thought I'd get some opinions before submitting.

They look good to me, but I'm sure you're probably getting swamped with PMs asking for you to sell the pictures to them. If I were you, I'd ignore these offers and submit to PSA/DNA and then sell it on eBay.

I haven't sold anything from my childhood collection so I don't think I will start now.

This is the closest I'll come to finding a Wagner in the attic, although I did pick up a run of 1955-1964 Yankees World Series Programs at a Flea Market in Lancaster once.
  • The Martin looks good, but the Munson could be a clubhouse...........

appears to be possibly an "auto-pen type" device & not hand signed

I have owned a few nice Munson auto's over the years, and I have to say yours looks legit as long as it isnt pre-printed. There are so many good forgers out there that you wont really know for sure until PSA/DNA confirms.

Just picked up a great 1958 pirates team signed ball with a sweet clemente auto & 19 others i have identified so far. My cousins husband got it from his deceased father who was friendly with Pete Rose, back in the day in Cincy.....wonder if he won it from Rose on a bet !!!!!!!!!

Those are not "good" autographs. They are printed on the picture. The Yankees in the 1970s produced these with pre-printed "signatures". When I was a kid then I wrote to several Yankees over those years requesting autographs and got these back - they even kept the index card and trading cards I sent. I doubt the players ever saw my letters. I beleive they kept this up well into the 1980s.

Also during that period you can find similar photos with facsimile signatures from the Kansas City Royals and Philadelphia Phillies.

One thing I forgot to add - if you get a bunch of those photos together you'll note that the "signatures" are all on the same angle. Ironmanfan is probably right, they could be autopenned.

like I had said....the Munson sig looks as his real sig would, but in my mind I was thinking pre-print as well......I wrote to Mattingly as a kid and got back something very similar.

of course it looks like his real signature, pre-prints and autopens are designed to do just that. its not the real thing
