anyone else have a nemesis?

This guy, classic_cardboard_.com, outbids me on graded mantles all the time. He pays more than anyone else for all kinds of stuff, then I see some of it on the bay later at hugely inflated prices/reserves that he never seems to get. Seems like his resources are unlimited for the time being...He got me yet again tonight -

I haven't picked anything up going on 3 months but I was a big toppsvault fan.

My favorite stuff is origninal pen and ink drawings of the cartoons on the back of cards - e.g.

Then a guy named Wossamatau came along and will outbid whatever you do within reason.

E.g. before he came, I would be able to get a baseball piece for like 40 bucks - if he wants it - his snipe is somewhere in the 150 range and he must spends a few thousand a week!!!

    But that's life

    My nemesis

I don't know this guy at all, but #1 on the 1966 PSA Topps baseball registry can be a huge jerk. He constantly jacks up prices on cards that he already owns so the next buyer pays through the nose. He has got stuck with so many that he started another set, (see # 10). Because of that many of us keep our registry's private to the rest of the world. He may be a great person outside of E-Bay, but a huge problem to the rest of us trying to put the set together and not go bankrupt. He has a private E-Bay address and goes by the name "member2956343". I sometimes think he gets a kickback from sellers.

There is a silver lining as the rumor has it that after the last Mastronet auction gets sent out he will not be #1.

I loooooove this guy, he also collects '93 refractors and '63 fleer, he has paid me some verrrry handsome prices for cards from those sets.

I am just about tired of getting outbid on anything Mattingly by goodwizard23.....the guy buys up anything Mattingly, and will pay outrageous prices just to get it....on occasion I have bid 4x SMR just to see how high his bids actually are, and I still never caught up to him to find out.

Wossamatau is a top notch buyer. This guy has been buying my stuff for a while and always pays ASAP. I like repeat buyers epecially when they really want to win my auctions image

For every pissed of person who did not win an auction, because of being outbid, there is a happy seller that just pulled in a wad of cash.image

  • I have fair bidders like "hot garbage" that will bid me beyond my initial max on Yzerman rookies. I hate all of the last second "program traders'!!! They should all have kidney stones!

Don't think he gets stuck with them , I know on 63 fleer he has 2 of the top 5 sets both hovering around 9.0 . I think he just collects multiples of what he likes and doesn't have to worry about the cost.

Agreed , great for sellers , bad for buyers but i do not find him approach necessarily wrong. HAven't sold to him but he has driven some of my cards up that I have sold.

man that sucks. I will never forget when I lost a GAI 7.5 41 playball williams by 38 cents. I bid something like $2555.12 and the winner bid $2555.50.image

...but with the 10,000+ sets out there why would you want to blow big money on a second set? spend a bundle on a PSA 10 when you have a PSA 9--OF COURSE. try to build the same set in high grade that you already own--ODD. fortunately for him he does not have to worry about the cost, but you can only win a game once.

Agree with Czar. The member...... guy is a pain in the a*s on the 1967s - always outbids me by paying 5-10X SMR.

I don't know him, he could be the nicest guy in the world, just venting.

I do have a guy I compete with on Grady Sizemore. He generally will outbid me on rare stuff, but I know that once he has something I can just sit back and wait for the next one to come around and usually score it cheap, except one card he seems to want all copies of (#/25). But the good news is he's currently NARU'd! They're all mine!
    WANTED:
2005 Origins Old Judge Brown #/20 and Black 1/1s, 2000 Ultimate Victory Gold #/25
2004 UD Legends Bake McBride autos & parallels, and 1974 Topps #601 PSA 9
Rare Grady Sizemore parallels, printing plates, autographs

    Nothing on ebay

hmm, I don't think I have a nemesis. I'll say one thing though - if a Brett Butler card pops up that I don't yet own, I'm everyone's nemesis!

There's this pain in the ass guy on Ebay that bugs me all the time. Old time, fat balding guy named "Bud". He really gets on my nerves. Whenever there's a card I want - he's always there on top of me, and I win so many less cards than I would otherwise want if it were not for him. And certain times of the year, he seems a lot more active and ominous than others. Really gives me grief and sometimes takes the fun out of collecting - that's for sure.

If any of you guys run into him - be forewarned. His last name is Jett.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
