Thoughts on selling a lot of PSA...

I have 34 different PSA 7 all different commons that I am looking to sell. My problem is that invicdually they won't go for more than a buck or 2. Do you think it would be a good move to sell them all as one lot? I have never done this before as I only have sold individually. I would like to know any thoughts on this.

Thanks,

Jordan

I think you might be better off selling them individually. My thoughts are that when buying commons to complete a set you might not need all of the cards in the lot. But if someone needs more then one they could sell off the ones they dont need. image I see your dilemma.

I agree with Matt, sell individually. You really never know what a card might bring, especially when two bidders trying to complete the same set go at it. And like was said, many times buyers won't need all/most of the cards in a lot and bid accordingly.

I hate to bring this part up because I don't do it myself, but by selling individually and charging $3-$4 for shipping/handling, you can make an extra buck or two on each card that way, at least if different buyers are bidding. Like I said, I don't advocate this (I send all packaged up for $1.95) but you must admit many sellers use this shipping/handling "tool" as a way to make up for low dollar sales.

    Good luck, Shawn.

    yes. 1971 fb.

My problem with breaking them up, is that most won't sell even at $1 I fear and losing $.25 cents per listing on stuff that doesn't sell isn't worth it.

You could also split them into smaller lots of 4 cards or so. A compromise between selling them all individually or as one lot. It would work especially well if there is some logic to the division, such as being able to sell 4 cards of the same team.

A cautionary word if you end up selling the cards as one lot. Make sure you get the shipping cost right. I just screwed myself out of a couple dollars by undercharging on shipping some heavy items. I thought I had calculated the correct postage online through the USPS website, yet when I mailed out the package at the PO, it cost me an additional $6. I'm sure 34 PSA graded cards weigh a lot, so weigh carefully!

Email Jay at Quality Cards and see if he's interested. I've sold a bulk lot of mid grade commons to him in the past, and he may be willing to make a deal if the price is right.

    I disagree for this lot.

I would sell as a "1971 Topps FB PSA Starter Lot" type deal.

You will notice that most of the volume sellers use this method for lower grade lots with success.

Now if they were all 8's.....no.

Depends on how valuable your time is to you. I have sold PSA cards both individually and in lots such as PSA 5, 6, & 7, 60's commons after I upgraded these particular cards. In almost every case, you will earn extra money by selling them individually. To me it isn't even close to go through the aggravation of all the different lots just to earn a few extra bucks, unless you are just trying to buildup ebay feedback. My ebay feedback is already high enough for my purposes.

Those bigtime ebay sellers who sell these cheap cards one at a time, probably attempt to make some money on the freight, or have employees or their children with sometimes not much to do, so they get involved in packing and shipping out the cheap cards.

I don't have much input for you on the cards, but as for shipping them. Use the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate box. It's $7.70 up to 100 lbs. You can get a ton of graded cards in that box. I shipped 54 1/2" 1 screw holders to a guy in one of those boxes. Weighed 22 lbs and cost me $7.70.

Hope that helps. This flat rate box was a life saver for me on more than one occassion! (And the USPS will deliver them right to your door for you). image

By the way, if the 71's are all 7's and only a buck or two a piece, I'd be interested in them.

  • I'd sell individually. Start each auction at $.99. You save a dime in listing fees. Charge $3.99 for shipping. May be able to make up for lower grade/card price that way.

I've resorted to starting ALL my auctions at $.99. You garner more interest and get that competitive eBay mentality going between bidders, which seems to increase prices. Plus, with the added exposure, bidders lurk around your other auctions/eBay store and you may make an extra sale or two you wouldn't have otherwise.

I've had cards sitting in my store for, say, $20 for many days, and nothing. Send them to online auction (starting them at $.99) and all of a sudden the card is selling for $40 or $50. Interesting.

Just my two cents. Good luck.

My opinion is that you should try selling the cards at Fixed Price and use the "Best Offer" feature...this gives you a little more control over what the lowest price you get on the card will be. For example, if you'd be OK getting $4 for a card, list it at $6 Fixed with B/O enabled. You'll get a few clowns who will offer you $2 or less but there is a good chance you'll get your $6 asking price, or an offer near or at $4. Best offer doesn't cost anything, and Fixed Price from $1-$9.99 is only 35 cents.

Thanks for all the advice. I listed them at $.99 and we will see what happens.

    Go Ron Johnson!!!

Is it just me or does your George Byrd have the biggest printing dot in the history of Topps? Maybe you could sell it like that?

I am happy I broke them up. They all have bids. I had a few listed in the past for $4.99 and nothing. Some have already surpassed that mark.

And had you done me the courtesy of even responding to my PM you--perhaps--wouldn't even had had to worry, Jordan.
