Nothing we haven't seen before though - it does indeed seem that the borders have been fixed.

Cool. However, the Duke Snider has a caption about real autographs in red pen. Looks like a blue pen on my computer screen? Cool info though. Thanks.

  • The best part of the sell sheet is the checklist, a preview of some great cards.

Autograph Relic cards: Snider, Banks, Musial, Frank and Brooks Robinson, are keepers!

Plus, among the other auto cards are Whitey Ford and Yogi Berra

Also, look at the insert sets, especially the Then and Nows, especially these four:
    TN1 Mantle and ARod
TN2 Ted Williams and Michael Young
    TN3 Mantle and Giambi
    TN5 Williams and ARod

    Plus,
Just wondering what they will doing with the two TBD's. Nos. 400 and 407. They were multiple-player Yankee and Dodger cards. Wonder what they wil be

The only problem with the 2006 Topps Heritage set is that they will be followed by the 1958 tribute set in 2007, one of the dullest produced by Topps in its early years.

I wish they'd have either a Red or Blue Refractor 1 of 1 card of every card in the set as well. It would certainly spice up case breaks.

    Thanx Mud
I was looking forward to this year - I have collected since 2001 but may not do a set this year due to economic hobby cutbacks. image

But I will be watching from the cheap seats! image

Good luck to all my Heritage friends - this would have made year 3 in trading with you guys.

Dave & Adams is no longer taking presales. Pittsburgh Sports Wholesale is still taking them for $550. LR Cards is selling them in the $500 - $525 range (they have one ending on eBay tomorrow for $499 with a BIN of $509.00). image

welp, the rookies aren't all rookies and the auto checklist is plain bad. I was hoping topps would use the "expanded" real one checklist
to add in HOF type players, but they have used it to add in more players that no one cares about. I guess the only good thing is that
they all have the same print run?? If I see all the good guys in the infamous group A, then I will be really disappointed. Kudos for including
Mantle in the GU set, but why advertise cut sigs when there are only 2 total?

I have to be honest here, there isn't much here that I am excited about. Just like mudflap said..nothing we haven't already seen. I was
hoping that topps would load up this set to thank loyal collectors....I guess not. Jerry Schoonmaker??? Jim Small?? Is this thanks?

Im leaning towards the Basilone approach to set building this year. get in get out and open as few packs as you need to. Anyone have
odds on the real one autos?

    Kevin-

I agree on the auto checklist. At least they added Brooks and Frank Robinson to the real ones. I don't understand why they couldn't have added Maz to this set as well, since he is signing relic cards. Waaaaaaaaay too many common players, and the decent autos have almost all already been featured in a previous Heritage set.

    Monkey stamp-

I'm really glad Topps hasn't caved and added 1/1s and press plates to this set. One of the big reasons I like the Heritage set is that it's the one issue where I feel like I'm buying baseball cards not lottery tickets. There are high dollar cards in the set, but you won't usually find more than 2 or 3 cards in a case that will bring more than $50. You will find 100-150 cards from that case that will sell for between $5-10 though, so you've got that going for you.

If anyone is up for splitting a case, I might go for that. I had considered buying a whole case but I just don't know if I want to drop that much cash at once.

One of my big disappointments with this set is that Topps didn't make more of an effort to highlight the Giants & Dodgers, since '57 was their last year in New York. What I'd love to see would be some Brooklyn uniform variations on maybe Nomar, Gagne, Mueller or Kent and some New York variations on at least one of the Giants.

I received my confirmation the other day for my two cases - I'm getting a very decent year-end bonus, so I'm gonna splurge and see if I can pull something that'll bring a decent return.

    Geordie-

I would think Nomar's signing would be a little late to put in a Dodger uni. I haven't even gone over the variations yet on the CL - sort of makes it a mystery when I open my packs.

Jeff, I wouldn't be so sure. Seems to me that ARod & Beltre were in their new unis last year, although Beltre's chrome card had him as a Dodger. It was the same pose and action shot on both cards, which leads me to believe that the techology exists to put a player in whatever uniform they choose.

Its nice to actually talk about the set, as none of us buy this stuff to get rich. I think we need to all keep that in mind, when buying wax
a few weeks after the release. Inital demand might be high, but it will level off, if you can wait, then you will do better in the long run
(both on singles prices and wax prices).

Actually topps computer generates many of the cards. It started with the Giambi NY card...they just air brushed the A's uni. I think anything
is possible, and I don't think its too late to make those changes.

I love hearing about the history of 57....if anyone wants to add more, I would love hearing about it....also any set collectors

I personally have a 1957 topps set that I have put together over the last year....Schoonmaker and Small are actually fairly tough commons Kev!!. This is the ultimate set...i have a 1956 set as well but 1957 is the ULTIMATE SET in my opinion..... There are clean (somewhat dark) pictures to give you the feel of the era by showing the players and highlighting the backgrounds (see johnny podres 1957 topps card...do a search on ebay and see what i mean), borders to acutally judge the centering, and a no nonsense cluttering in how they state the team name and player. The team cards look like picture frames such that they should be on display. The top rookies of the set included 2 HOF pitchers Bunning and the late Drysdale, HOF slugger Frank Robinson and the best 3rd basement of his time Brooks Robinson. there are a couple tough mid series yankee rc's too that fetch a premium. 1957 had one "Rare series" similar to 1956. 1956 its the 3rd series....for 1957 the tough series is the 4th series out of 5 and many who collected the set in its day dont ever remember finding ANY 4th series at all. I love the whole dam set and chills when i display them all in team sets. I am constantly upgrading and was hopingthat topps would note that though expensive the cards are readily available on ebay....buy some psa 7 of each....and insert them maybe at a rate of 2 per case or something...once again ive been let down. Not only was this the first year topps used color photography...but the standard size of the card that is present today was invented. For the first time our heritage cards are of exact same size as the originals image...to me thats a plus. Let me know if anybody else has any questions about the original 57 set and my experience collecting it.

    Good job Ryan.

Even tho it's one of my favorite years, I never attempted doing the set. And as you know, two keys I have are OC!

<< <i>Its nice to actually talk about the set, as none of us buy this stuff to get rich >>

That for sure is an understatement Kevin.

I have never actually sold much stuff - mostly trade and give aways.

When I collected the first two 3 sets by myself, it was fun but the past 2 years are been very entertaining.

On the autos - I'm not impressed.

This is biz as usual for Topps - I remember how we used to speculate on what we would do with the upcoming set only to be disappointed. Unfortunately we are a drop in the bucket next to the run of the mill kids/collectors out there who buy the product I guess.

But, when the packs'r'rippin' and people start scanning, the exuberance will return.

I can't believe how one of last years 1/1 autos was opened this year for Christmas - and the Nixon no less!!!

    Happy heritage hunting guys
