Mantle master set question

Gents,

can you help me understand why the MAntle master set lists 1967 yankee team card #131 and yet does not list other team cards like the 1961 #228 ?? ......thanks

Because no one has requested #228 yet. My personal experience is that 80% of player set collectors DO NOT want team cards included in the player master set. However, PSA has decided that since it actually pictures the person, even if the headshoot is less than 5mm x 5mm, that it can be included in the Master Set. Very silly in my opinion - but the end result is that some player master sets have a few team cards that one or two people in the minority of player set collectors wanted added to the set.

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • thanks,

I would think this results in very inconsistent master sets !

As a Mantle Master set owner, I am not in favor of adding team cards just because the blip in the second row is Mickey. Additionally, the Topps team card photos are very inaccurate. The 1966 Yankee team card has Yogi Berra on it ....and he was fired in'64!!

Yeah if you compare Yankees team cards they are the same exact picture for a few years in a row
