Ancient coin newbie

Hello all! I've been a fixture on the U.S forum for years but LordM got me started in ancients again (I had a few years ago but never pursued) and so here I am. I'm starting a very specialized little collection of Late Roman bronzes (Constantine family to Honorius/Arcadius) struck exclusively at Antioch and Alexandria. My reasons are strictly historical.

Any other ancients collectors with specialized fields?

Yes, but no real specialization - Anything with awesome eye appeal for the type.

Although I do have a weakness for Greek Italy/Sicily...
  • I'm working on a collection of Roman Republican denarii by deity. Just VFs to keep it affordable. I also pick up the occasional Greek type I can't resist image

The only Roman coins that I really look for are those minted in London. If I run across a nice ancient coin from some other place I might buy it, but London mint stuff is all I am really looking for.

My primary focus is on the AE Folli of RIC VI, especially the central mints. This volume covers the period from Diocletian's reform in ca 294 to Constantine's defeat of Maxentius in 312. At first glance this seems to be a pretty boring series - small number of design and how many Genio Pop reverses do you need - but once you scratch the service its an interesting and dynamic series with tons of variety, most of which can be garnered for modest cost. Looking for my LON follis and a few of the better Carthage pieces at the moment.
