1986 Topps Football

For the upcoming year, I have decided to start the 1986 Topps Football set. I was wondering if any of you have sent in
any 1986's to get graded and how you did? what you looked for? I have been told that this is a really tough set to
gather in high grade and I am looking for any help I can get. Hope you all had a happy holidays.

Happy New Year, good choice. There are a couple people attempting an all PSA 10 set, but that may never happen. Much like the 1985 set the borders make it tough, and because of the stripes it's also had to judge centering. But on the plus side, there is still some unopened left (although expensive mainly because of the Rice). A very doable set in straight PSA 9. At one point I had about 75% in PSA 9. Very fun to build.

You might want to look for lots on eBay like the one listed below to save on shipping.
If you start buying PSA 9s and tacking on $1-3 shipping on each card it brings your cost way up.

True..these cards are tough because of the borders and centering.
I had my best luck ripping rack cases...out of 32 Rices pulled...I only graded 14..the rest were nice, just chipped or Off Center. I received 2 PSA 9's and the rest were all solid 8's.

I was hoipng to due a little better, but they really do tend to grade these hard.

I did receive around 20 PSA 10's though...so they can be had. I submitted around 200 cards in total....there were roughly 20 PSA 10's....24 or 25 PSA 8's...2 PSA 9 OC....but the rest all came back solid PSA 9 with no qualifiers.

My Registered Set sits at #2..."Floyd's 1986 Topps Football Retirement Set"...although I haven't worked on it lately...it is around 31% complete. Who knows...with the right offer..it could be yours...lol

Good luck with your set. I have about 30-40 more ready to send in....the dupes will all be on Ebay...

Thanks for the info. I am planning on starting by submitting my own cards, and see where it goes. I am hoping
