NFL Head Coaches done this year?

Looks to be a large number of openings in the NFL, with 5 jobs already open a day after the season is over:

Detroit
Houston
Kansas City
St. Louis
Minnesota

Several others look to open as well:

New Orleans (Haslett is likely done, as is his QB Brooks with Leinart likely being drafted)
NY Jets (Herm could bolt to the KC job)
Baltimore (Billick at the end of his chain?)
Oakland (the countdown is on)
SD (Martyball done with the huge letdown?)
Green Bay (If Favre goes, so does Sherman?)

I doubt sincerely that Parcells leaves, because I am sure he's competitive enough to know he can win next year with the way that D is developing, as long as he can get an adequate QB. Bledsoe absolutely killed them in several games this year.

And I don't see a lot of these guys getting jobs elsewhere in the league right away, so there could be a good crop of new head coaches next year.

  • The Ravens' owner said Billick will stay. We all know an owner's word is good as gold. image

With all the head coaching changes, I am wondering who would be a good fit at Minnesota. Personally, I would have liked to see Tice's contract extend for 1 more year. But, I am not the owner. Oh well. At least the Vikings beat the Packers twice this year. That in itself makes a sucessful year.

Most of the head coaches being fired, are from losing teams. I can't see any of them heading to the Vikings. Why would you want to get rid of Tice, who had a winning record, and get a coach that was 4-12 or something. Yeah, Tice had his faults (scalping tickets, not having control of his players, etc.) but someone please throw out a name or two of who you would think would be better than Tice.

There are only two coaches I am thinking of (even though they aren't leaving their teams right now) that seem interesting.... Billick and Parcells.

I think Haslett would be an interesting fit in Minny...would definitely bring a defensive mindset to the team.
  • .Let's speculate the coaching Merry-Go-Round:

    Fired/Retired:

    Detriot - Mariucci
    KC - Vermeil
    St. Louis - Martz
    NO - Haslett
    Minn. - Tice
    GB - Sherman
    Houston - Capers
    Oakland - Turner

I think Haslett and Sherman will be hired by another team. Only Oakland may hire Tice - no other team would be willing to put up with his baggage. Capers may become an assistant like he did in Jax. Mariucci, Martz, and Turner are through, at least for now. Looks like a handful of "new blood" (i.e. assistants, college coaches) will be filling a good number of these vacancies. Hopefully Vermeil will stay retired this time, for his own good.
