anyway to improve the performance of the boards?

When replying to a post, it is becoming more frequent that the server does not respond back. I stop the web browser transaction and try to repost it. Of course that is not a very good idea.
Some evenings when doing a search of the forums the results take
more than just seconds to return. Try 30-60 seconds in some cases.
This makes it quite difficult to search quickly and effectively.
I want to blame this poor performance on Microsofts server and database products due to error pages i have seen thrown to me from the server.
Could the admin of this server double check the settings of the server? As in how many concurrent threads it can handle or simultaneous connections?
Can the admin improve the disk access times or add more memory?
