Last year, Cal whines because they were rated 6th (if I recall correctly) and were not invited to a BCS bowl. All of the Pac 10 people said it was bull and that the West Coast schools got no respect. They went to their bowl game and got it handed to them by Texas Tech, so their arguement didn't seem to hold any weight.
This year, enter Oregon. Also 6th ranked and also complaining about not getting a BCS bid. They lose to OU, a 4 loss team who looked poor throughout much of the season. Obviously Oregon didn't deserve the invitation either.
So what's this say about the Pac 10 over the last two years? Believe me, I'm in no way saying USC isn't strong but something like this can possibly validate arguements that the Pac 10 is not one of the top conferences when their second place teams lose bowl games they should obviously win.

Because all the voters are east coasters who are in bed by the time these teams play, they get no love. The continual removal of PAC10 teams from BCS games just proves how real the east coast bias is in this country.
Whether they (Cal & Oregon) may have possibly felt they deserved BCS bids or not, it's evident that those two teams weren't deserving of one either of the last 2 years. USC is strong no matter what anybody says, merely because any team who can win that many games in a row is impressive. Are they the best ever? Well that's merely a debate for children and ESPN. Those statements are silly as the game is always evolving and it's impossible to compare them. Do I think they would have done this in the Big 10 or SEC? Nope, I don't think they would have but again, that's only speculation because we will never know.

Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Oregon wouldn't have been the national draw that ohio state or ND would have been, and that's the only reason they weren't invited.
Cal lost a spot in the standings last year to texas in a week in which texas didn't play and cal won big.
Yet people claim there's no bias? Please.
<< <i>So they lost bowl games...and your point is?

My point is simply that they were not worthy of a larger game against a better team because they couldn't beat a lesser team. Further, you act as if no other team has dropped during a winning week. This whole west coast bias thing is only seen by people who live there, but it's hard to say it exsists when USC is being voted #1 every week. Bias? Please...
I suppose the upsets of Cal and Oregon might be at least partly the result of the letdown associated with the perceived snubs, but that's really no excuse. If you're not going to come out and compete, don't accept the bid in the first place. Those two performances really hurt the chances of any future Pac-10 teams that are on the BCS bubble.
Sharing DNA with Ryan Leaf probably doesn't help either.
Now if they get snubbed next year, when they should be better, a little screaming should be heard.
One last thought.
SOME OF THE FOOTBALL POLLS ARE JUST PLAIN LAUGHABLE !!!!
See Ya next year....
Maybe the reason there is an "east coast bias" is because the east coast has better NCAA football team - particullarly in the SEC, the best conference in college football.
However I would have like to see Georgia play a better team than Hawaii - perhaps USC vs Ga would have been a compelling 2nd place game. The BCS would not do that becuase they would not want the winner of that game to challenge their winner.
Of course the championship game was another farce. LSU deserved to be in it but Ohio State again!! I suppose the same darn thing will happen next year as the hype has already started again for OSU. The hype will produce another laugher.
Go Ducks. See Ya next year
