Why do they still use PVC?

I bought a gold Panda coin and it comes in a sealed plastic flip, it is soft so I assume it it is PVC, and I'll put it in another holder if it is. Anyone know why PVC is still used for coin shipping, do they still believe PVC is safe?

    PVC has no effect on gold, Leave that panda in it's original holder to maintain it's highest value. IMHO

    I believe short-term storage in PVC plastic will not cause any damage to the coin.

    While it's true that PVC will not harm gold, per se, it will still leave a film of that decrepit material on your gold coin. Who would want to subject their coins to that humiliation, even for a short while??

    I have no idea why people still use PVC; it kills coins. We've been over this topic over and over again on this forum. Dealers who house coins in such material should be subject to serious prosecution; I don't know how they can get up in the morning and look at themselves in the mirror.

    I have no idea why people still use PVC;

    Regarding dealers, and big auction houses for that matter, I believe they use the soft flips because they are cheaper than safe flips, but mainly because of their ease of use. Non PVC flips break easily after opening them a few times to inspect the coin, so it is only a short term storage method that is more convenient than others.

    As for the panda coin, I'd leave it as is, as PVC really does not affect gold coins and NCLTs tend to lose some of their value if removed from their original package. That said, in principle, I totally agree with Jester's opinion and with wybrit's red x. image
