    Thanks Don,

This was the 2nd time in for all of the "was ..." pieces. They didn't cross the 1st time. Never suspected it was because of AT.

Does this mean that ICCS is unable to tell an AT copper coin? image

I don't think I've ever submitted the same coin twice ,except perhaps for a couple of what seemed to me as really unfair 58s. Do not misunderstand me, I'm not criticizing here, but is it really worth all these extra slabbing fees, especially on already graded (by ICCS) coins?

    A few questions please:

    1. Does "Artificial Color" mean it was body bagged?

    2. How and why does one create artificial color on bronze coins? Does one try to make it more red to increase the value?

    Hi FilamCoins - good questions.

    1. Yes, they were bagged. The system states AT (artificial color) but the tags on the bags state QT (questionable color). Picked up the coins today. My opinions: the 1918 is full red and full lustre, should have slabbed; the 1917 has 75% lustre with a hint of pale lilac color at legends; the 1913 may have been dipped; the 2nd 1911 has 75% lustre but the coloring is pale tan neither red nor brown; the 1st 1911 has grey/charcoal spots on obv and a light scratch I hadn't noticed before.

    2. I don't know how to artificially tone coins, tho I've heard about some techniques. The rainbow naturally toned coin phenomon has generated a few AT specialists. Read some of the US Forum posts on toning to get an idea.
