Wow. That's not Ripken's signature! Take a look!

Looks like they put the wrong autograph sticker on this 2004 Leaf Certified Materials card. Take a look at this eBay auction:

Not a Cal Ripken, Jr. Autograph

and compare it to Cal Ripken, Jr.'s PSA authenticated autograph:

PSA Authenticated Cal Ripken, Jr. Autograph

There's no way the first link is Ripken's autograph. So what player from that set penned the mystery autograph?

  • Almost looks like Jason Giambi
  • Almost looks like Jason Giambi
  • Giambi's in the set, but it doesn't look like his autograph to me. His autograph doesn't seem to have the big circles this one has.

Here's a link to the checklist:

    Select Donruss > 2004 > Baseball > Leaf Certified Materials > Commons

I also wouldn't rule out that the autograph sticker was applied backwards or upside-down either! image

That's one of the things I hate about sticker autographs. The same thing happened last year with Reggie White - where the soon to be HOF Reggie White's autographed sticker was put on some no-name Reggie White's card.

I wish the companies for once would look beyond the bottom line and have all autographs on the cards - not on the friggin stickers. I'm sure half of the people putting the stickers on the cards don't know Cal Ripken from BJ Surhoff.
