Submission Question

After letting my subscription lapse for about a year, I decided to rejoin PSA. My first set of free submission were all from my Registry set. This time I am mixing modern with semi-vintage. Ex. 1965 Stargell, 1979 Strikeout Leaders-Ryan-Johnson, 1982 Ripken and 2002 Bowman Draft Refractors. Is this a bad idea? I feel that I can grade pretty accurately(sometimes) but I wonder if a "first time submission" will work against me, even though I have been a member in the past. Thanks in advance.

what do you mean? work against you?

    Good for you.
  • Steve, I guess I mean that the Bowmans are pretty hard to get less than a 9. My older cards I believe are probably 8's. Do you think that the graders know that these 6 cards are from a potential newbie and grade them down? I got very good grades on three of my submissions of Bowman cards. I just don't want them knocked down if my older cards are not as good. Would I be better off submitting 6 Bowman Drafts or 6 semi-vintage?

  • Tunispaul, I'm not exactly following where you are going but my advice for your "freebie" submissions is to submitt the vintage or semi-vintage cards first. Reason being, it's gonna save you money to submitt the vintage cards because PSA will grade any card for their "freebies" but after that you pay the regular submission fees and it is more expensive to have a vintage (pre 1972) card graded than a modern (1972 and later) card. Difference in price is $7 per card or more.

  • MurphDawg,
That makes perfect sense. I have an almost complete high grade 1970 set that I would like to get graded eventually. I think what I am going to do is just submit 6 of the nicest low pop. cards from that set. Thanks to all who read my first post. Sorry for the confusing post. I have read both of them again, and even I don't know exactly what I am saying. Paul
