Can anyone tell me about this German medal?

It is 40mm in diameter and looks like cast brass.

"Everything I have is for sale except for my wife and my dog....and I'm not sure about one of them."
In 1916 after two years of war more then 100 years later, the government called on the people to donate, besides other war-important metals, gold and jewelry in order to finance the increasing war costs.
It was a pure donation, because the paper money they got for their gold and jewelry wasn't worth what was written on it, and the people knew that!
Everybody who donated, got this medal.
