gold error coins

can some one help me on a answer on error gold coin i have a 1861 2 1/2 that on the back you can see that the die was cracked also the front and back are some what doubled die does older gold coins that have some kind of error are they worth a lot more then others or does this afect the grade and price thank you for any help

    Actually, die breaks and some signs of doubling (which may be "machine doubling" rather than an indication of a "doubled die") don't put a coin into the "error" category.

    Generally speaking, a lot of the earlier Coronet gold coins (1838-1865) have die breaks and other indications of "production problems", especially the coins from the southern mints (Charlotte, Dahlonega and New Orleans). Many collectors think that these add "character" to the coins and look for them, but as far as I'm aware, they don't affect either the grade or price.

    Very minor die breaks and die cracks are common on U.S. Gold coins. But if it looks like this, call me:
