A few eBay questions for my PSA brethren

1. How much is appropriate for shipping on a card?
I charge $1.50 for the first and $0.50 each additional card for first class mail. This takes care of everything and you aren't ripping anyone off. I charge $2.00 for a graded card and $0.50 each additional. I can't understand some people charging $4-$6+ shipping on a graded card.
2. How do you package a product? How do you expect to receive a packaged product?
I package cards in top loaders and put tape across the top to prevent them falling out. I place them in bubble mailers and if necessary I place them (in top loaders) in a team bag. I hate when I receive raw cards with no protection in a team bag because they are always damaged. I ship graded cards in protective sleeves and put them tightly inside an appropriate bubble mailer. I expect the same in return.
3. How long does it take you to ship out an item after the auction ends?
I try to get it out within 1-2 business days following the auction. I work weird hours and thank god for the Automated Postal Center. It ticks me off when a seller waits a week to ship something very important to the winning bidder and makes excuse after excuse after excuse...

  • Personally, I don't feel a bubble mailer offers enough protection. I prefer a box and ship only priority mail which decreases transit and handling time and adds to the expense. Of course, the card has to be worth at least a few dollars to make this practical, but I think the buyer is ultimately happy to see intact product on arrival as described. I also think it is a good idea to include insurance to protect both parties and this adds a couple dollars. Just my thoughts.

I hate to say it Geoff but this kind of smells like that canned meat by-product. What's it called again?

  • Yikes. I didn't even think about that. I shoulda put it in my "Bad eBay Sellers" thread.

  • I ship graded cards out in new 600 count boxes. They cost approx. .30 cents but I feel they provide the ultimate in protection. I feel that customers appreciate when a seller goes the extra mile- and that ultimately leads to better sales in the future.
