A few bad eBay sellers for everyone to avoid

phatthreads
- Bought 15 cards a month or so ago and haven't received any of them. Only spent about $4 on them overall and filed a complaint with PayPal.
rogich24
- Does not protect cards and mails them in a basic letter envelope. All mine came damaged from him because they fell out of the top loader. Did not take the blame either when I inquired about it.
slammjamm2
- He only took about 10 days to get me my boxes of cards but others have stated 60+ days and some have not received theirs at all. Also rips you off on shipping. Was a real jerk to deal with when asking about the status of my order.
tntnorthnj
- Bought 17 lots/cards from him and all were shipped with damage because none were protected. Lots of bent and dinged corners.

Add this seller to the list of definate BAD guys....ebay id american_hollow. This guy stole mine and over 40 other peoples money in the past 2 months. He sends profanity laced emails when asked where your items are. His feedback is private now so you cant see how he has burned people, yet he leaves negatives at the drop of a hat ( gave me one after the first email i sent asking where my stuff was) I have heard now that he is under federal investigation for mail fraud.....AND, here is the kicker....good ol ebay still hasnt kicked him off. Gotta love it.

That is scary to think that people can get away with it. I have just began to sell on Ebay and am learning some things on the way. Should private feedback be allowed, besides to hide the scammers bad feedback, do others use it to keep hidden their recent purchases? What other reasons would one want a private feedback.

I think that Geoff has come up with an interesting idea here. I would think that everyone deserves a chance to fix their issues and most folks can have one instance gone wrong with a delay in shipping....but, this would be a good thread to keep editing the top post and add the names of sellers who have had at least a couple of instances of bad customer service or being a jerk to a customer.

pjsbullpen ripped me off on a case of 2004 Playoff Contenders football. Got my money back from my credit card, Paypal and Ebay were useless.

This guy pre-sells cases and never delivers, screwed a lot of people on 2004 football product.

macattaq (Jon Wall aka booboo221). Sold me a PSA 7 Bobby Orr in a tampered PSA holder for over $2000. Card was creased, paperwork from PSA verified the tampering, refused to give me a refund (presumably because he could no longer unload it on another unsuspecting buyer as a real PSA 7). Case still open with PayPal, although PayPal has already ruled in my favor.

I just had a thought. What would it hurt to have a permanant sticky of eBay sellers to avoid? The seller would added onto the list with a brief description of the reason why. The only way the seller can be removed is to have the original poster make the request, presumably after the seller has made satisfactory amends to the buyer. This may be no different then the normal eBay feedback, but at least this would be of local interest to the collector community at this forum.

I doubt that PSA would allow their biggest customers to be listed on this site as irresponsible sellers.

The reason I say that scambay's fb is "USELESS" is because it is largely a product
of extortion by scummy sellers. Most buyers are afraid to leave negs; they either trade
positives with the crooks, or just remain silent.

PREDICTION: Within the next two-years, the Federal Trade Commission will be explaining
to scambay exactly what the term"venue provider" really means. When that happens,
most of the long-term thieves will no longer be allowed to peddle their wares on scambay.

  • There is a thin legal line to posting someone as a scam artist though !!
There are 3 sides to every story...the buyers...the sellers and the real truth....

People can be over sensitive or not knowledgable when purchasing certain items. Say someone sells a 1985 Topps vending box that is from a factory case...but the buyer fails to pull a McGwire or Clemens. The buyer then goes on a tyrade about the sellers cards being searched or that he got ripped off.
We all know it happens....but if the seller did 100% honest transaction...why is it then upon him to defend himself!!??!!

Devils advocate, there are alot of scam artists out there too..and we ALL need protection from them.

BUT..if someone calls a person out by name and tells others to avoid a certain seller...he is then in jeopardy of a slander/defamation of character suit. Especially if the seller was not in the wrong and his business or sales are affected by it. There's all sorts of state torts and statutes that can get involved...."knowingly interferring with contractual obligations" is a big one.

So I guess my point is...if you're going to open the flood gates against someone..you may want to be 100% sure it's worth a fight should the other person retaliate!!

We are all full of emotion when we feel we get burned...the courts tend to take out the emotion and base solely on the merits of the case. Sometimes we get caught up in slamming someone and don't really see that we may be even a little in the wrong!! (case in point...how many times have we all read "I saw the zero or low feedback..or negative feedbacks..or the private feedbacks, but I thought I'd give it a shot and still bid") Cases like that blame falls on both sides!!

I guess I just look at it as this business takes WAY too much time and effort to try to build and maintain....if there was a frivolous post about someone, who has time to bother to fight them?
I guess my decision would be easy, I have a lawyer that works for vintage baseball cards..I'd just set him loose..lol

Thanks to good ethics and business practices....I've never had an issue that wasn't pleasantly pacified. Too bad that isn't always the case....

I find there to be no legal issues with posting someone's ebay ID and your bad stories...let the buyer beware, and everyone has a story of how feedback is used to keep people from speaking up.

I'd like to find out if we can get this thread stickied.
  • ditto about tntnorthnj nad pjsbullpen.
  • I totally agree, on a interest only board, that we should be able to relate our personal experiences.
Not everything has to be PC, we can still tell others in our community how we are doing and what is being done to us.
Besides, I'm told that if I want to sue someone, I have to go to their location of residence or business to do it. No one is going to waste their time and money to come to Arkansas.

Slander and defamation would only apply if the story is untrue.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
