Beautiful coin, but I would worry about why it was in a PCI gold label holder. I too would suspect artificial frost.

With PCI golds you have the same real concern as most no-name grading service holders- not so much that the coin will be overgraded (that is often the case but is readily apparent), but rather that the no-name holder masks some hidden problems or doctoring.

  • YOU MIGHT BE RIGHT ..
LOOK AT THE T IN UNITED AND THE E IN AMERICA.
look at the reverse on the ngc slab it has a bit of yellow too.
    look closer at the lettering..
they look somewhat longated.. also take a look at the gigantic circle eye ball on the eagle..

The 1898 Morgan Dollar is artificially frosted. Blatantly so.

PCI is gun shy? image This auction is a joke - if this coin is as nice as described it should be in a PCGS or NGC holder. I'd turn and run from this one.

Run Forrest run. If everything was legit with that wonder coin.... it would certainly be living in a different slab.

I am sure PCGS and NGC wouldn't be so gun shy. I just didn't have the time to send it in and make myself thousands of dollars more.

    Typical scam.

  • The 1898 is a blatant fake. I doubt that even PCI slabbed it. I am guessing that it is a cut-n-paste image or someone split a PCI slab and put this coin into it. Not even PCI would slab such a coin. It looks like a cartoon.

Something is rotten in Denmark. Actually, something is rotten in Canada. The seller says he is in Colorado, but the auction is listed on a eBay Canada.

The 1879 in the second link is a nice coin and genuine.

Yeah, it is interesting that the seller is registered in the United States, however, he/she listed the coin on the eBay Canada website.
