Four New VAM Discoveries - All Morgans
Received some coins back from Leroy today. Discovered four new Morgan VAMs. The 1902-O has an "unlisted 2 olive reverse". The 1921-P I mentioned here didn't make it. He said the dot was too small to list.

Question -- if these are new VAMs, then why are they R-5?
I think he gives those numbers based on his experience, existence of other VAMs with the same obverse or reverse dies, the specific characteristic(s) that make it a unique VAM, etc. I think there are some early VAMs that have low R numbers, but are very hard to find; and some with high R numbers, that have been easier to find.
Congrats.

<< <i>Neat, i just checked my 1902-O in my Morgan collection and found it also has the two olive reverse... new discoveries are fun
There are some existing 1902-O VAMs that have a two olive reverse. I guess he noticed this was a different reverse die than the existing VAMs. The last reverse on my updates is a C4/C3v. He gave this a C4/C3w.
You got it to him before I did. Just another classic case of the old adage, The early bird gets the worm die gouge discovery.

Now you need to figure out which of the 23 different 2 olive reverses you have.
