Bo Jackson cards/video

I was opening a retail box of topps all american with my 8 year old and getting asked "Was he good" on every player when we came across Bo Jackson.

I went to eBay to check out some cards and realized his cards/autos are high dollar stuff!!! Still highly collectable, and what an athlete he was. I had almost forgot how good he was had the injury not derailed him. What a shame.

That being said, I was wondering if any of you guys had any video clips of Bo's career. I remember the lead off home run in the all star game that went about 450 and I think he went on to win the MVP that game. I remember him rushing for 200+ on a Monday Night Football game. But the play I remember being most impressed with was him catching a ball on the warning track and throwing out Harold Reynolds (I think) at the plate with a rocket that never touched the ground. Line drive throw to the plate from the warning track!!!!

Anyway, I can't find anything or don't know where to look, but would love it if any of you had any clips so I can share with my son. Until then, here's hoping I pull a Bo auto out of my next box!!!

Shawn.

  • Didn't he run threw a wall to make a catch once?

    What a beast!

That was actually Rodney McCray who ran through the wall catching a ball. At the time, he was with a White Sox minor league team, I believe.

Bo ran UP a wall once to catch a ball. Almost as impressive.

It was probably Frank White he was throwing to. I don't think Harold and Bo ever played together.

OK. Now I can read and I see that you said he threw OUT Harold, not threw TO. My bad.image

Yeah, I remember that one too!! Man, wish I could find some video of that stuff.

It seems I remember seeing replays of the tackle that basically ruined his career, but wasn't watching at the time. Anyone remember if it "looked" that serious at the time, i.e. Joe Theismann, or just a tackle from behind and he'll be okay????

Although there were two sport athletes before and after him, I just read he was the first to be an all-star/pro-bowler in both. Pretty impressive. LMK if you find some links to some video. thanks guys.

    Shawn.
  • If I remeber correctly, the tackle was a harmless looking one from behind in a game vs the Bengals (I think it was a playoff game but not 100% on that.) Bo was awesome, one of my faves as a teen. The MNF game vs. Seattle was a classic, culminating with basically ending Brian Bosworths rapidly dwindling reputation. The all star game 3 HR show was sick too. Occasionally imitated (Sanders, B. Jordan, guys like R. Williams trying to play AA ball) I doubt he'll ever be duplicated...

Two plays stand out in my mind: Driving Bosworth into the end zone and listenin,g to Alan Trammel increduosly describing Bo beating out a routine two-hopper to short.

  • Biggest play that stands out in my mind is when he came back after the Hip surgery. Everyone doubted him and what’s he do? His First at-bat he smacks a homerun! Wow it was incredible. Love the White Sox and love Bo.

  • Bo is my all time favorite. I have everything of his from game used jerseys to every card in gem

When Bo was a rookie, he was .2 seconds faster from the righty batter box than the fastest lefty in the league. I won an auction a few months back for 100+ Bo cards. There were probably about 20 different cards and the condition was pretty good. I forgot how much I liked him. I have every one of those cards back at my folks house from when I was young.

    This was my favorite card:

I remember Bo running full-steam into a catcher, and the force of the collision sent the poor catcher tumbling past the on-deck circle. He may have had to come out of the game - and was quoted as saying something like "Now I know how it feels to be hit by a truck". He also stated that he had new respect for linebackers, because to run full-force into Bo running full-force was mind boggling to him.

And there is no video of this stuff? Nothing I can download?

I want to see it all again. Great storys guys. I'd just like to show my son the highlight instead of just saying it. After all, even an 8 year old looks suspicious when you say a guy made a catch by climbing the wall like Spiderman. Up one side and then down. Come on.
  • Those "Bo Knows" commercials were awesome too. You should be able to find them somewhere.
  • My favorite was when he struck out and busted the bat over his knee. Then him running over bosworth.I have about 150 diffrent cards of him.He would of been the all time leading rusher. He was my favorite player of all time then went to barry sanders.I collect both of there cards.I don't know if you remember his BO KNOWS CLUB.He did hit four home runs in a row.His fourth one was when he got back from surgery. He sure was awsome.

i remember one time when Bo was training between seasons he was up in alaska running around getting in shape and a polar bear jumped out and attacked him, Bo wrestled the polar bear to the ground and put the bear in a figure-4 leglock like Ric Flair until the bear died..
