To Crack or not to Crack

I have an 1854 O Seated Half that I bought with ANACS papers. At some point I sent it in to ANACS to be put in a slab. If I cracked it out of the slab to fill the hole in my type set, would the ANACS cert (1986) still be accepted? It's only an AU so it's not really a big deal. Just wondering if those old ANACS certs hold water or if they're just collectors items. image

  • The coin is what it is. If it's an AU then it's not gonna get any less circulated. image How you handle it after you crack it is all that matters.

Certified grades should only be valid if the coin is in that holder. They can't guarantee that you won't ruin it after you cracked it out.

I think Tyrock is referring to the old ANA paper certs not the slab certification that was had subsequent to that.

They are probably just collectors items at this point.

I sent in a 65/65 Walker in an old ANACS slip with papers for re-holdering. It came back in a 64 plastic holder image
