For new registry set collectors, words of advice...

Do not be in a hurry, I am and probably spent a third more than I should of. Are you competitive? If so you will not be happy unless you are in the top 20%! At first you just think about completing the set, then (too late) you think about the ranking of the set. Most of the people with sets bought their coins when they cost a lot less than today. So to match them will take a lot more resources now. The coins you upgrade that you had to have before that next nicer coin came along are very hard to get rid of for the same money! So figure out your budget and if you can get one grade higher for around $800 or less WAIT. See someone else going up in the rankings fast that already has a 100% full set? They now have the extra coins, email them and ask if they would like to help both of you out. Have a fellow collector show you some coins with grades hidden and guess what they are. Have him (or her you lucky dog) explain why your grades are off or on. Send some coins to pcgs and keep a record of what you feel are probable grades and compare them when you get them back. Try to concentrate your buying from fewer sources, instead of being a little fish to a lot of people you will be a big fish to several people. This may get you better deals and first offers. If any one else has some advice, please post it on this thread for other new and or potential registry set participants. Merry Christmas! Mark McClary in So-Cal
