Starlightexpresso...Is this newbie LEGIT?

Starlightexpresso has listed a ton of unopened stuff and he has 0 feedback. All the scans look consistent and he even has his name on cases. What are your thoughts on this guy?

I for one have made my last transaction ever with someone who doesnt take paypal. Been burned way too many times that way. Most recently was a nice Bernie Williams auto bat that i intended on giving my brother in law for x-mas, till of course the seller stole my $$, along with around 40 others this month. He conveniently has a private feedback now so nobody can see his thefts. And of course ebay is useless in getting the $$ back OR kicking this ass off. It just amazes me how people can get away with that crap and not end up in jail for it.

  • You'll have to file a complaint with his home town police station...that WILL get his attention!! It stinks to have to go to that level but..whatever it takes.
I had a guy try to burn me for $650 for a 1986 Fleer Basketball Set with a PSA 8 Jordan rookie....excuse after excuse...then no replies at all. I called the local PD and they told me that they'd stop by. They did...and then SUDDENLY I get a call...he had lost my phone number...lost my email blah blah blah..long story short it put the fear into him anb suddenly jail didn't look like such a good option. Long story short, I got the $$$ back...

People don't seem to take getting burned far enough against the people who do it!! Someone burns me, heck..if I don't get through to them...plane tickets are cheap these days...they may find me on their front door step!!! lol

We all have to ban together to try to rid the market of these people...it will take time...but turning our heads the other way and saying "oh well..not again" isn't the answer either!!

I doubt it. why bother taking a chance?

I know everyone has to start somewhere but selling those items with zero feedback and no paypal is a mistake waiting to happen.

    I would pass.

edited to add: as for the police sstat you got lucky. many Police depts will say it is a civil matter between you and the seller.
    Good for you.
  • That is an awful lot of high end packs he has up there. Very possible he cracked a box of 75 racks. Believe me, I'm salivating over them, but I won' take the chance. The one auction that bothers me is the 1975 rack with Aaron on top. He doesn't have a 'starlight' sticker on it and I could swear I saw that exact pack (Aaron and Spaceman combo is what makes me believe I've seen it before) offered previously on Ebay.

I always believe in giving someone the benefit of a doubt, but it's almost 2006 and this guy is only now starting to sell cards on Ebay??? More to this story.
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

The argument isn't whether or not there are exceptions. It's whether or not there are enough exceptions to justify the risk.

Not accepting PayPal doesn't have to necessarily be a red flag. When I first joined ebay it was to sell, and I didn't understand how PayPal worked so I didn't signup for it. I only started with 15 lots though, nothing the size and value of some of these lots. The big red flag in my view is out of the "scammer's handbook" - the bigger the scam the more likely that people will fall for it.

I'm not sure yet if it is a scam...I'll look closer at it later because yes those 75 Topps packs do look mighty interesting, but the sheer number of auctions for a first timer is worrisome. Before bidding, I would contact the seller and get his complete story on the auction. Perhaps this is a longtime seller on ebay with a new account for some reason.
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
I have asked the seller for some info. If and when he replies I will tell the board.

Until then he basically has only 1 item that i am interested in and if i do not bid on it i certaintly won't lose any sleep.

Maybe I'm getting soft - LOL. When I first saw this I thought it might be our old "buddy" paoutdoorsman again.

Sure hate to sound "skeptical" but this whole thing sure appears to be similar both in style and substance to paoutsdoorsman. Scans look the same. I remember paoutsdoorman was selling everything for "one" longtime collector. Looks to me like he moved to Washington maybe to escape some Pennsylvania warrants - LOL. Do whatever you want...I ain't bidding. Hope I'm wrong and nobody gets scammed. But this guy sure is clever...he's got this down to a science.
  • Absolutely NOT LEGIT! This is the reincarnation of a guy who sold fake Mantles and ripped off lots of people for thousands of dollars. Trust me on this. The Washington State atty. general's office has been on this guy's trail!

I asked for a picture of an item, and this was his response.

Yes, I can scan a picture for you, but it is a standard blue and white Topps vendor stamped baseball on the top, there is no year as Topps started that sometime later.

No picture after 3 days! Will not respond to e-mails after that.

  • If this person does live in Tacoma I am not too far away from him in Seattle. I emailed him a few days ago about paying cash and picking up in person. no response.
  • I feel bad for all those unsuspecting bidders. This guy is going to clean up...and during the holidays, too. OUCH!

I'm telling you--this is the same guy who was the subject of an investigation by the Washington State Atty General's office. He lives in Seattle.

This should be interesting as I have noticed a well known pack collector has a bid in on an item. I remm he telling us that only fools bid on items like this. I wonder what he thinks he knows that we do not.

  • I am also very skeptical, but what makes you think this is the guy being investigated by the State's Attorney General. Can anybody vouch for this guy?

ask dgf about this guy, this is the old waxme , do a search on old threads. Linda/Terry is a fruitcake and most likely has the items. It is a risk that you may or may not get them though. I have had good and bad transactions with him. I bought one of his 76 50 card mint lots and 30 cards out of the 50 graded 9's. I have also seen them sell tampered packs and had to fight with him to get items another time. also , received good cellos another doubt the racks are tampered with but not sure if they will get sent. if I was bidding on this batch , I would not pay until I saw feedback start to post from all the old transactions, thats the only way to handle this transaction
  • zef204zef204 Posts: 4,742 ✭✭

I bought a 77 vending box that was 100% searched. I would stay away especially from the vending. If he is selling lots of stars, and vendors from the same year, to me that smells fishy.

I just noticed that waxme is NARU'd. I was burned on an "unopened" 1977 Topps fb vending box but I returned the box and filed a chargeback through my credit card. I received my refund through the chargeback and never hear back from him/her again.

Maybe that's why this new seller doesn't accept paypal (if it really is waxme).....he/she wouldn't have to worry about cc chargebacks when the buyer realizes that they've been screwed.

I just got this message regarding waxme. Too good to be true I guess.

Please be advised that the following auction:

    8740087842 - 1977 78 Topps Basketball Kareem Abdul Jabbar 3 Vending

was ended early by eBay. The auction was ended due to the account suspension of the seller.
All results for this auction are null and void.

  • Have you guys noticed that Starlightexpresso in no longer a registered user? Do you think this is his way of avoiding negative feedback while the money comes in?
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
No I think it is ebay's way of telling the world that this guy was a fraud.

I just got this message regarding waxme

    waxme? do you mean starlighexpresso?

Not sure if it was ever established that it was waxme. but then again if waxme was naru and ebay saw that they were using a different name maybe that is what got them busted? In any event just from the scans I could tell that this auction was bogus. boxes were cropped etc.

My bad. My message was regarding "Starlightexpresso." I don't really know if this is the same person as waxme.

I just got confirmation from one of the buyers of a 75 rack that the selleris in fact Linda Ihfeldt. He was shocked that I asked if it was her. Well, I guess we know for sure now.

if you haven't stopped payment , there is still hope that items will arrive. the racks are probably legit, the vending and wax , doubt it. Terry/Linda had a huge source for the vending and packs but his problem is to add to the profits , he usually searched it all and then sold "unopened" vending to add to profits. other times things weren't sent at all and you had to fight like hell to get it.

by the way , there wasn't much cover up as to who it was. same location , waxme was the only one I know of putting that name tag in the scans and same product , ie lots , vending , wax , opened cellos etc.
