Should I Accept The Offer: PSA 7 (OC) '62 Brock Rookie

Hi
I'm listing my 1962 Lou Brock Rookie PSA 7(OC). Linky

There's 6 days left in the auction and I have one bid on the item.

I have received an offer of $50 shipped on the item.

Should I accept the offer?

That's $5 over PSA 5 SMR. I'd take it in a heartbeat, but I might be the only one. image

i dunno what to tell you, but i just recently had an offer to end an auction early, the offer was 3x SMR.. i turned it down and it ended up selling for closer to 6x SMR..

  • Yours is a pretty nice looking card, even with the OC. Dunno if I would end it early for that price...
Next MONTH? So he's saying that if he wins, the best-case scenario is that he'll be paying for it two weeks after the auction ends?

Forget blocking him; find out where he lives and go punch him in the nuts. --WalterSobchak 9/12/12

What does your conscience say? Seriously....is your integrity worth 60 bucks?

mike - what does js's integrity have to do with a buy offer?

    Hehehe...
My mom bought that back in the late '80s to give the grandkids. She never got around to giving it to them, so I picked it up when I visited her in Oct.
The Coke bottle radio too. image

I thought once a bid is entered, you have to let the auction run its course unless the item is no longer available?

Mike - Yes you are correct. I thought you meant about negotiating a sell price.

That is a tough one. I receive buy now offers all the time and usually turn them down because they are too low. However if I received an offer that meets my target, I would probably sell. JS's auction is still early and I highly doubt that the first bidder expected to win at his current bid.

The only reason that buy now offers are against ebay policy is because they do not want to miss out on the final value fee. It has nothing to do with protecting bidders, they already have the 12 hour rule for them. They way I see it Ebay executives and their customer service reps in Bangalore aren't going to miss a few bucks, I pay them enough in fees already.

    Thanks for helping me decide.
I turned down the offer because it just didn't feel right to accept it. There are quite a few watchers and bidding has gone up to $7.50. Even though I am now subject to Ebay's fees (extortion) I'd feel like a weasel cancelling it.

It was a tough call because the offer wasn't bad and the fees really do tick me off. But no one's holding a gun to my head to sell on Ebay so I can't whine too much.

Oh well. Guess that's why I don't make the Big Bucks image

    Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

Your auction just began and u already have 5 bids! Don't end early!

    A good idea for you:

Add a comment to your description saying something like this: On December 19th, I was asked to end auction early for $50. I declined that offer!

In my experience, a guy who offers at the start just at or above SMR is looking for a deal. 9/10 that happens to me, the item sells 2-3x smr because smr is just too low.

Also you are at $26 already w/ 5 bids, I think other people will see this is a card people want because of the bids and drive the price up. Plus its ending the day after Christmas when everyone has the day off and some people have $ from xmas and some are happy they didn't blow all their $ during it.

    Ride it out.

    Guys
I was not trying to be self-righteous or anything.

But, having been at my job now for 27 yrs., I take my ethical dilemmas as serious as possible.

What I gain unethically, in the short run, will be soon gone, but what I do will echo in eternity.

    Merry Christmas
