Help a Newbie with grading this quarter eagle, please (Pictures darkened)

I am still learning and would appreciate some input on the grade of this quarter eagle. Don't be afraid to hurt my feelings image

I know the pictures aren't very large but it is the best that I can do. I have adjusted the pictures to try to reduce the glare.

Thanks

Ralph

    Welcome,

There is almost no way to grade this with all of the reflection. It is very possible it has been cleaned or polished. If it has not then comes the tough part. With these coins it is very difficult to tell real from counterfiet and AU58 from MS62. This has a very strong strike and may be MS. Beyond this with the glare covering any marks can't tell if it is MS60, MS62 or MS65.

I would definately take it to a local dealer, he may give you a quick judgment with out charging a grading fee:
1.) Check if it is genuine
2.) Check if it is AU or MS
3.) If it is MS either send it to a slab company such as PCGS for grading or pay the local dealer to give you a real grade. MS pricing jumps quickly with grades 60-66.
4.) If it is AU just enjoy the coin, it is a common date and probably worth ~$200 in AU. If you want you can have the AU coin slabbed but added worth is minimal.
