Burbank Sportcards - Anyone deal with them?

Does anyone here have experience with Burbank Sportscards? Especially people who have sold to them. I used to read the guy's column on Beckett, but haven't heard much since.

  • Buying from them - OVERPRICED & not helpful. Even at their high prices for singles I wanted to check some details on cards - their response was buy it and you'll find out.

  • I have bought 1 PSA graded card from them in the past. The case was severly scatched. And not a few deeps scratches either. Imagine a 15 year old top loader that has been handled and abused. That is how scratched up it was. Almost like it was repeatedly rubbed on the floor by a toddler.

I cannot comment on their customer service as I have had no experience with that. I just feel it was unfair not to mention the crappy condition of the case.

For the most part I wouldn't bother. They have a large selection of singles from the '60's on, but their prices and grading are from the dark ages. They will often say they have something in stock, only for you to get there and they don't.
However, they don't know their cards very well, and I've done well buying rarer variations they didn't know they had. And if you go on days the owner isn't there they can be pretty generous on the discounts.
Overall one of those stores that will close down with nobody caring.

  • Very fast, but overpriced, rude service sums it up for me. However, if you need that missing common, not a bad place to go.

For a comparison of similar inventory, there's

    Friendly, but overpriced and sloooowwwwww

Burbank is doing a lot of buying. Has anyone sold vintage to them?
    Mike
  • He will buy just about anything and everything for probably right about what it will cost you in gas to drive it there. If you have ANY other avenues for selling your vintage you would get more $$$$. The positive is that they will put a dollar amount on just about any deal.So if you gotta fill your crystal meth pipe right now then they are it.They went through a period of time when they were not grading any vintage but that is in the past.Just about anything worth grading will be in a GAI holder now.

Can anyone confirm their grading accuracy for their eBay items? They have no pictures of the commons they're selling and since I'm looking for something in hi grade - can I trust their "NM" or "MT" grading?

Go one grade lower. I go there in person when I want something from them so I can inspect it. When Topps did the Million Card Giveaway, let's just say that a significant portion of them came from BSC.

Have not dealt with them... although I would like to! They certainly have cards I want/need... just not at prices close to what I'd pay!

I've sent them very fair offers on BIN/Best Offer items on eBay... offers simply expire without action.

I've sent them emails asking what they'd really consider (since they offer the Best Offer option)... have never received a reply.

I've sent them emails asking about the condition of items (since they use stock photos or no photos at all)... have never received a reply.

I asked them earlier for a scan of one of their cards and they answered with...

"I am sorry, but we do not have a scan available at the moment."

I understand when you have an inventory the size of theirs - you might not be able to scan ever card in. But as a buyer - am I just supposed to just take their word on it?

I've only purchased modern from them, but I've never gotten a mint card. I don't worry about it though because the cards are so hard to track down, it's about as good as I'll do anyway.

I've chimed in on Burbank before, and I think I've been lucky. When I was collecting Griffey, I purchased some tough to find inserts and refractors from them. Everything I bought came back a 9 or 10- more 10s than 9s by at least a 3 to 1 margin.

My last Burbank purchase, only a $70 card, but I wish it wasn't so chipped:

I purchased lots of oddball from them a few years ago when I was working on some 80's player registry sets. Condition was mostly as described. I would deal with them again.

They are good at having hard to find 90s inserts. Usually they want full book, almost full book or a little over, but on some cards, book is not bad. So, they are good for PC collectors. Maybe not so good overall for the average collector.

I have sold to them, they will give you a price for most stuff. He won't buy everything, but they pay cash for what they do buy. It's about the only store in the LA area that will give you cash. You can also try Beverly Hills Baseball card shop, but he cuts a check. Each place will probably give you the same price.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!

imo, terrible service, lack of quality control, and most of the time super overpriced (which is really a separate issue, if it's a successful business model good for them)...
