"The ban comes after a sometimes violent Nov. 27 Jets-Saints game in which police made nine arrests. In one altercation during the second half, two fans were stabbed outside a men's room. In another incident, a state trooper broke his leg while trying to eject a fan who reportedly threw a beer bottle."
The 'best' fans in the league? You don't hear of alcohol bans happening ANYWHERE else, not even Philly which has a history of very rabid fans.

Really, though......how often do I have to say that so long as the dollars flowing in are greater than the costs to society, this evil known as alcohol will continue to thrive.
Btw, looks like the guy in the above referenced photo needs yet another refill!!
Remember these Chuck Norris Facts
1. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn't lifting himself up, he's pushing the Earth down
2. According to Einstein's theory of relativity, Chuck Norris can actually roundhouse kick you yesterday
3. There are no such things as lesbians, just women who have not yet met Chuck Norris
And you're right, alcohol brings so much money to these venues, yet alcohol is the common currency in all these incidents...the malice at the palace included.
Yes alcohol does play a part in this violence and sometimes a large part. But for a fact, the worst violence occurs amongst gamblers who are losing big money on the game. Losing money like this definitely brings out the violent side in many people, then mixed in with the alcohol, it's a bad combination.

Come on, do you really believe what you're typing? It's obvious from your Pete Rose posts that you abhor gambling, but I fail to see any connection between those betting on the game and violence.
Alcohol has long been called 'liquid courage', and it rears its ugly head over and over; I doubt that bets have little if anything to do with it.
<< <i>What about the kid to the left in the photo, wide eyed with his fist pumping? >>
Aw, c'mon....can't blame the kid in the photo since that is Zach from Saved by the Bell and he has immunity for being one of the coolest characters on TV evar!!

Axtell - believe whatever you want but the facts are that at sporting events, gambling has A LOT to do with it, much of the time. Obviously you don't understand gamblers and that's okay...but when you're about to lose a dime or two on a game, and some jack*ss is making derogatory comments about your team or maybe something else it can result in violence - I have personally witnessed this a number of times in bars. I agreed that the alcohol is a contributing factor...but at sports events, the losing money triggers people to violence worse than alcohol.

<< <i>Looks like a younger John Kerry doing the punching >>
I think he looks like Drew Carey's boss, Mr. Wick.
<< <i>Notice also how the guy doing the pubching did not lose his 11.00 beer?

Well he had his buddy in the back put the punching bag in a sleeper hold. Great teamwork, guys!
Ron Artest is a punk compared to a few in the seats rumbles at the old Spectrum.
In one late 60s/early70s game the St. Louis Blues climbed the glass and went at it with the fans. A real brawl with sticks pads and all.
