Does anyone have Bowers' two volume history of the ANA books?

Does anyone have these books? Can you tell me what the content is like. I was considering getting them, but I am not sure if the books focus more on the people/members of the ANA, or whether the books somehow are limited to the organization itself. In order to have two volumes of information, I am sure the books cover a broad range of topics, but for some reason I can't get an idea of what the overall theme of the books might be. Does anyone have a table of contents list or a link to it?

What? There is a Dave Bowers book you don't yet own? Egads! How dare you show your face around here?

The book is essentially a month by month history of American coin collecting -- its trends, its people, and the ANA -- from 1891 to 1991. Think of it as a quick and easy Numismatist index. Read about which coin dealers showed off their dancing skills at the banquet of the 1937 ANA convention. Find out what rolls of 1960-D nickels were going for in 1962. Find the obits for all the collectors who are famous pedigrees today. It's a great reference and one that I actually use VERY frequently.

Have a name that you know is someone coin-related? Check the index, find the pages, and you're an instant expert in that person's numismatic life! I recommend it highly (and, yes, it is out of print).

Speaking for myself, I was on vacation last week, so I probably missed only two or three. image

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

If you hurry, you will find both volumes on abebooks.com at $37.50 each plus shipping. The book titles are The American Numismatic Association Centenial History Volume 1 and The American Numismatic Association Centenial History Volume 2.
