Help Needed With a 41 Play Ball Question

I e-mailed a seller on the Beckett boards asking for some scans some ex-mt and nr-mt 41 Play Ball's they had listed. I received the scan below along wit this text:

"Here are the pictures you wanted. the nm 1941 is the paper verison. The other 1941's are regular cards."

I didn't know what the seller meant by the "paper" version so I sent another e-mail asking what that meant and the response was:

"In the 1941 playball they made some paper cards that are very thin and some regular cardborad cards. in the Beckett guide that comes out once a year you can get information about the cards."

Can anybody shed any light on this? Are the paper one's regarded as the same as the cardboard version? Will PSA garde these? Any help you can give me is appreciated. The nm card referred to as the paper version is one of the Trosky's, the second one I presume.

In my Beckett Annual, under 1941 Play Ball R336 listing, it has the following in the description:

"In 1942, numbers 1-48 were also reissued but without the copyright date. The cards were also printed on paper without a cardboard backing; these are generally encountered in sheets or strips"

It makes no notation of prices for these paper reissues. I do not know if PSA grades them.

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • There is a seller in NJ who seems to have an endless supply of the paper versions that have been listed on Ebay from time to time. They usually go for pretty cheap, so dont give up a bunch on any trades......

I"ve got a sheet of #'s 1-12 paper version, uncut. I've only seen #'s 1-24 on paper versions, both as singles and sheets (2 sheets of 12). I've got an SGC graded Gehringer paper version, PSA may grade them but I've never seen any. They've turned me down on other similarly thin items (Turkey Red redemption coupons, Fatima coupons, etc) so I think they are probably too thin to slab. None are designated in the pop report for 1941, and there is no entry for 1942.
The paper versions are much scarcer, but also less desirable, hence the lower price.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's
