What does buying something and "flipping" it mean? Does it just mean buying something and turning around and reselling it??

Is what ever going to change? people buy and sell cards all the time.

If that is indeed what you are talking about.

Maybe you didn't catch that he bought it with i.d. and then is selling it under another. I thought ebay was supposed to stop this sort of thing. But i guess not.

I think it is going to be VERY difficult for them to stop that. Especially when some of these collectors have stores and there are 3-4 people who work there. Or a husband and wife, they each can have seperate accounts. I don't know why it bothers you?

It doesn't bother me at all. I guess it's more or less because I don't think ebay can/will stop it. Kind of a "whad'ya gonna do?" feeling. I don't like people having multiple accounts, but I guess if you are going to bid on something like that, you should probably look and see what others are selling for. If someone sees that the exact same card sold a week earlier for $10 less and chooses to bid or not to bid, I guess I don't have a problem with it. People flipping cards happens all the time, heck I've done it at shows. I've picked up a card from one dealers table, put it on my table and sold it 20 minutes later for a small profit... just business IMO.

Does any of that make any sense? lol. I've been packing up cards from my auctions for the last 3 hours, everything is a blur to me now. image

BTW, do you have that card? One of the nicer looking '71's, seemed just a touch OC top to bottom though..or was that just the holder giving that illusion?

I have no problem with someone having multiple eBay ID's, perhaps one for buying, one for selling, to make it so their buyers cannot see what they have recently purchased. If someone wants to flip a card, the card won't show up in feedback that way. There is nothing wrong (or illegal on eBay) with that as far as I know. Nothing wrong with making money doing it honestly, and flipping would definitely qualify for that. I buy stuff all the time that I believe is undervalued or that I can win cheaper than usual with the idea that eventualy I will probably resell or trade it with the fullest intention of being able to bring me either more money or value than I paid.

Obviously, this guy isn't too swift with this Carew card unless it just so happened he didn't like the card when he received it or something came up and he needed the money instead of the card. I mean, after the eBay fees, he'll barely break even.

I dont have multiple user id's on Ebay, but I do buy a lot of items and turn around and resell them. Some I buy raw and get graded, and some I just find at a reasonable price already graded, and just relist them with a better write-up and end the auction on a good night. Probably 75% of what I sell on Ebay, I bought previously on Ebay.
  • Not much of a flip, but Ebay stores are loaded with items people are trying to quadruple thier money on. Yeah, I'm tired of it too. When I purchase something, it goes into my collection. Sometimes people are busy flipping the card even before they take possesion of it with the same scan. Ebay just wants another listing fee and final value fee, so don't bother complaining. Multiple ID's are more commonplace then you think with a lot of sellers on Ebay.........
  • So the guy made a quick $30.00
    Who cares??
  • Keyword spamming is crap. The seller does not know this item would cross to a PSA 9.

I am not trying to be rude but why does it matter? I don't see what the big deal is?
  • I don't have a problem either with Flipping and/or having multiple id's. It's not against Ebay rules and as long as no one is scamming (ie: Buying cards under one id and than altering and selling them under another id) Ebay is not going to do anything about it. I also know that many collectors have 1 buying id and 1 selling id. Sometimes it's to protect their buying id feedback, but basically it's for privacy so that others don't watch/track their flipping.

  • Did the guy make a quick $30.00 (actually around $20.00 after s&h and fees) or did something far worse happen here?

Is it me or does the relisted card have two white corners on the left??

Please tell me I'm wrong and we didn't just see a switch here!

    Yes I caught that.

If that is indeed your problem then you must be living a charmed life.

  • This is a strange thread.

Question: Best chocolate chips to use in cookies? Do you guys like random chunks or miniature "kisses"? How 'bout soft-batch or crunchy?
    Thoughts?

I was raised on German style cookies and prefer dryer chrispy cookies and the TollHouse choc's would be my choice.
