1954 Topps Gordie Howe- $2126

Seems this card has been selling closer to SMR as of late. In the past it sold for a good $400 or $500 less.

One of the great cards of the hobby.

There is a pop of 40 PSA 8s making it the highest PSA 8 pop in the set. (There are also 3 PSA 9s.)

Absolutley have zero interest in Hockey but love that card, every now and then I will view it on somebodys registry set. Gotta be the most prized hockey card next to Gretzky's rookie I would think.

The card's a classic! Had it not been right before x-mas, I might have made a bid for it. Already own a PSA 6. One of the two best Howe cards (along with the 63/64 parkhurst).

I still recall many many years ago (Around 1987) that I bought a raw 1954 Topps Gordie Howe.
I think "BOOK" on it at the time was around $150. I paid $300. Several people looked at me
funny and said..."ARE YOU NUTS? You should not have paid over $100 for it!" Needless to say,
    a few years later....sent it to PSA....came back 8.....sold it.....$1500. Nuff said!

I still love the card as well, probably because I grew up in Deeeetroit (1954-1967).

I still have my first Kaline Rookie (with lower left corner missing top of cardboard),
    at $15. YIKES!image

    regards and goodnight

I agree. In fact, I wonder if a time will ever come when the 1954 Topps Howe is at least as (if not more) desirable as his '51 Parkhurst much in the same way a '52 Mantle is more desirable than his true rookie in '51 Bowman. Aesthetically, 1954 Topps overruns 1951 Parkhurst.
  • its a tough set to find in good condition.
