My Experience: 1984 USFL

bought about 3 sets....condition about NM...but i got lucky and within the 3 sets have been able to put together a single WELL CENTERED NM SET....really these cards are TOUGH...its the HOT PINK backs that kill it and the fact they were sold in that flimsy box. At any rate, these cards are AWESOME...and even though the INVESTMENT is GONE for me....i WILL have my set graded even if a few come back as 6's cause of the corners on the back....THESE CARDS ARE BEAUTIFUL AND I WANT TO DISPLAY A FULL SET ON MY WALL...WOWZERS....the photography BLOWS AWAY the 1984 nfl topps set...anybody agree? disagree??

  • I agree - loved the USFL sets in my teen years! The backs always knock the grades down on those.......

Just curious Loth - drinkin' already?image

I thought he was happy because I sent him a PM offering to buy a few commons from his leftover sets.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

I just started this set ... tough to find centered! The last PSA 10s on Ebay each had the typical diamond cut.
  • Here are some of the better centered examples that I have ...

mine are all somewhat centered like that...no diamond cuts...but they are not 9's..they are 7's to 8's....damage mostly seen on the back due to the hot pink.....but mine are centered....no diamond cuts...in fact neither of my 3 sets had diamondcuts....that is common??

  • mine are in a box, in the closet. At one point, I had three raw '85 sets, but I should two of those off. Hard to get nice grades, since the "traded" boxes didn't protect the cards that much.
Running an Ebay store sure takes a lot more time than a person would think!
  • Loth,

Here are subtle examples what I've experienced ...

... if you examine the borders?

  • There are some really ugly PSA 9s out there ...

ugh..those are definitely diamond...mine arnt...should i be jumping up and down with glee??

i might be weird...id rather have a psa 6-7 (would be called nm-mt to mint by your local dealer)
set then a 9-10 diamond cut set........guess i should get mine graded!!

I just got curious and looked up the Set Registry for the '84 USFL cards and the set composition. Why are all cards weighted the same?

In case anyone is interested I just listed 4 PSA singles from the 1985 set on Ebay. The Flutie Rookie and 2nd year Kelly are PSA 10, the 2nd year Young and White are both PSA 9. Here is the link to my auctions: For sale by gameusedhoop

    Here are some pics:
