Robert Michael Prescott Collection

MikeInFLMikeInFL Posts: 10,188 ✭✭✭✭
Just got the latest Heritage catalog and just flipped through it. Not sure who Robert Michael Prescott is, but his coins sure are superb. Some amazing patterns and a range of both old and modern coins, mint state, proof, patterns, and even circulated coins.

What were your thoughts? Did any jump off the page?

For me, the 1871-CC quarter in AU-55 was one. The 1906 PR-66 CAM quater eagle was another.

His collection of toned commemoratives was also very nice.

The auction is 1/3/06 in Orlando. I'm contemplating attending...Mike

I think you meant ANR, but anyway, funny how perspectives are different depending on what are your collecting interests. It took me about 3 minutes perusing online for me to realize that there is nothing in my areas of interest. I will not be bidding seriously at ANR or Heritage at the FUN sales. Just as well, I need some time to digest recent purchases! image

I got it today (along with the Superior catalog). I have not looked at it yet.

    RYK,

Thanks for the correction -- it is the ANR catalog.

I can understand how you'd be a bit disappointed with this one -- there wasn't that much gold in it.

It just struck me how broad of a collection it was...Mike

Are all of the coins in the catalog from this collection? Often, the sale is named after a major consignor, famous collection, or real or ficticious location, etc., and the consignments come from a wide variety of sources.

I can understand how you'd be a bit disappointed with this one -- there wasn't that much gold in it.

I have made major purchases (major for me, anyway) in the last two ANR sales. I am happy to let someone else have a shot at the coins this time around. image

RYK, Silly me. image There are also lots of Frog Run coins and non-labeled coins. Thanks for the second lesson. image

I'm still looking at the catalog and reviewed the gold -- the 1851-O gold dollar in MS 66 with what look to me as original surfaces is a very nice one.

Another one is the PR-64 Gobrecht half dollar (J-79a) pattern in silver. image

    Take care...Mike

1871-cc quarter is a cool coinimage a great addition to any collection

1906 proof 66 cam quarter eagle was okie it is a good looking coin!!! but you can usually obtain proof quarter eagles 1885 and after also with later date 1880's proof one dollar gold they are available

now a sexy civil war date proof quarter eagle or a pre civil war proof one dollar gold NOW THAT WOULD BE imagemonsterimage

Robert Michael is a friend of mine. His collection is mainly made up of toned commoms.
He also had a toned type set, washington quartes and Franklins. It is his toned commems
that are the staple of hhis collection.

  • Have met " Boston Bobby" a number of times in the past. He has a good eye and his commemoratives are super monsters, a number of which have upgrade potential. In my opinion, if you are not going to FUN or do not have a rep to bid for you there, don't bother as his coins (especially the commems) will go to the dealers who have clients that will give big bucks.

I took pictures of "boston Bobby" collection for him. We live in the same town and play some golf together.
Commeman you are correct about the undergraded part. There are some really nice coins to be had in this collection.
it is drawing quite a bit of buzz.
  • I hope Bob gets a bunch of bucks and despite my comments in my last post I also would like to see the average guy (not dealers) get a good number of his commemoratives. Next time you (toneddollars ) and Bob are in Southeast North Carolina lets hit the little white ball.

See how it goes ? We spend a lifetime putting together some of the most fantastic coins in the whole world just to end up selling them. That '69 S DDO Lincoln has me re-thinking raising my 16 yr old the next couple years and sending her to the ex so I can get it.
Nah.... I couldn't do that to my kid.

I'll just dream of owning that Penny ... God and PCGS both know I haven't found it in 36 yrs of searching pocket change. They'd be the first to hear about it image

I really like one of the Barber Halves in this ANR catalog...but I'm not telling which one at this moment !

Its a perfect match to the 1901 I just won last week @ ANR.

The eye appeal of the coins in this catalog seem to be even higher than we've come to expect from ANR consignments. Well done.
