With New Year Approaching....

I can't help but think of the MIA's once more...

Most notably - Beachbum, KallMaloneSay, Aknot, Scumby, Roach, etc.

And those forced into retirement like Vargha and Ranch.

Beachbum was one of the brightest and Scumby the most creative guy I have witnessed on these boards or any board for that matter.

Who have you missed? Ya know, there's many people who bring controversy but that's a good thing too...it forces people to think and sometimes even outside the box!

Merry Christmas or for those PC inclined, Happy Holidays - but remember the song - "It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas" or "I'm dreamin' of a White Christmas" - very hard to throw holiday in there!

I agree: Characters (even noxious ones) are kinda nice to have around.

And on the holiday theme, I'm thinking we should have a first annual CU Board Airing of the Grievances sometime next week.

I always enjoyed PSAtan's posts, and KallMalone's. Didn't Beachbum rip off a fellow board member?

There have also been other posters, like Toppsgun, about whom I had a decidedly dimmer view.

And I'd still like to strangle whoever it was that suggested a guy buy a high dollar scanner to pre-grade cards image

    Boo
Beach was condescending at times but very astute and interesting guy - he came the same time as me and is big on the Beckett boards I believe.

I never had contact with Toppsgun but he was a handful!LOL

I remember Aknot when I first joined - he was bit of a SOB (LOL) but he was okay, I liked him. He seemed to disappear maybe a month or two after I joined.

And Vargha was well...Vargha...they'll never be another like him. He occassionally posts over at VBC but his marvelous sense of humor gets stifled over there.

Zardoz is still around, but with a different name and on a different forum. He and Scumbi/PSatan/AlanH were the funniest on this forum. Vargha was pretty close, but he's still around if you know where to look.
There seems to be a natural attrition in the hobby, which is too bad when someone so funny as these guys leaves. But there are always some new ones to follow.

    I really miss dgbaseball. image

More seriously I liked Mudflap's posts and also the guy that got into photography recently so stopped posting here (can't remember his name).

  • PSAtan/Scumbi was the most entertaining thing on these boards for awhile. I can't help but think of him from time to time, when all these silly "arguing" posts break out. He could shut people up with a wit that has not been seen here since. Simply brilliant!!

Beachbum snuck back in for a while under the handle of Doppleganger. I thought I recongnized the Cool Hand style, and we exchanged some PM's for a while.....but he either decided to fade off or got boinked off again. Not sure.

I also enjoyed reading the twisted tales and perpendicular perspectives that Scumby offered up. Never failed to amuse.

We need to do an official ROLE-CALL on every collector here that posts and is not wishing to be quite due to a registry fued. It basically says everything about me in my sig- i due vintage baseball, 80s basketball and football, and collect some modern football rookies when prices are nice.

Lothar - thanks. We now know you better. Would you mind running your message through a hops screen, then have the results of the actual interpretation posted to the registry forum. image

I liked the fact that Aknot stood his ground - I think I remember him being against sniping? And that started a feud for a bit?

It's nice to think about these guys and what they brought to the table.

And of course, talking about OT's like your favorite bike.

I think we all can agree on that. Some of the best posts I have ever read here (at least in terms of wit) came from Scumbi/PSatan/AlanH.

Aknot started the whole big signature banner "Beckett-style" thing here, but other than that - he was a good poster. And, while I never really understood the relationship between The Roach and Beachbum, they both were very knowledgeable modern card posters. So was KallMaloneSay. Too bad these guys, and others, have faded from here.

Vargha was "retired" but any of his posts remain - they don't erase someones name from the data file.

AKNOT is a good guy - he has since faded into obscurity. He was in the process of moving earlier this year and never reappeared afterwards. He must not be quite the Marino addict that I am image

On a positive note, Davillio is posting again.

Yes, hopefully he is going well. In the post-EBay world it takes guts to open a brick and morter card shop.

Zardoz and Scumbi were great ones.
