holy freakin crap.. im not this intoxicated..

ok, i listed something on ebay, then i went to click "sell another item" and it puts me to a page that says "create a ebay sellers account"..

it has a username field and a password field, with a username already filled in.. (a username ive never heard of)..

so of course i know better than enter a password or anything, so i go to www.ebay.com homepage, then i go to "my ebay".. i noticed it looked different, and ITS SOMEONE ELSES FRIGGING EBAY ACCOUNT! WTF? it's somebody elses "watch list" "items won" and everything!

i swear to God I bet i could go bidding on stuff on this persons account..

this makes absolutely no sense.. somebody better not be logged on on MY account somewhere.. damnit..

i was on MY account, then without EVER entering another username or password, i end up on SOMEONE elses "my ebay" page..

Sounds odd... I would get into your account and change your password immediately and see if anything has been done to it. Would also be a good idea to e-mail the other guy whose account you got into by accident and tell them to change all their info too.

    Ah...

OK, now, that is f'ed up. I actually got my account hijacked onetime and some a-hole in italy was trying to sell a mercedes and wanted $5k cash down to be wired to him and the rest due upon the car's arrival. They even hijacked my hotmail account linked to my eBay so I had no way to prove I was me. It really felt like big Bruno was ramming me up the as.... did I say that out loud?

Anywhoo, it was a real pain in the ass. image

  • I also had a strange name show up in MY EBAY. It happened several times and I had to log totally out and back in again to get rid of it. Sounds like a system glitch.

That is really, really strange. I think you mentioned in the open forum that you were having problems with your computer. Although I can't see how a computer problem would result in this situation, perhaps the computer problems had something to do with this in some weird way.
  • I've been on the Ebay forums also - this is happening to quite a few people. Ebay has acknowledged that they did update some code for logins, but right now do not acknowledge any real issue. They are recommending to people having this issue that they clear their cache. LOL!!! It has nothing to do with a person's individual computer - it is a serious glitch at Ebay. It's scary thinking that someone else may suddenly find themselves on your MyEbay page and decide to bid on a few items for you... (shudder)

I had the same problem as being described above and had different user names pop up after bidding on an item to confirm my bid.

  • same thing here, name field was filled out, but password was blank. I retyped in my log in and password after logging out and going back to ebay

    Pandrews,

That is the weirdest thing. Just the other day I came down to check some things on Ebay, my kids had been on the internet and Ebay was open to the login screen, on the login screen was a name of a user that I did not know. My kids are too young to start an account, would not be able to anyways, but I check the name out in the member search area and this person had one item that they had purchased and had been a member for about 4 years. Could not for the life of me figure out how this i.d. ended up on my Ebay signin screen???

Happened to me too on Friday night. Closed all windows and retried - same thing happened; rebooted and same thing happenend again. Gone today though. Must have actually been an ebay problem and not a phishing trip.

  • Hi all - frequent lurker, trying out my new password for the message boards, saw this thread.... this has been happening to me on ebay for the last two days as well - when I go to log in there is a different username, with the password field bank... It kind of freaked me out, now that I see it's happening to others I feel a little better (until I find out that I bid on a bunch of beanie babies or MANTLE PRO 8.5 L@@Ks). I'm not sure how I ever got any sleep before I found these boards... Thanks yet again all!!!

It happened to me three times last night. It would occur right after I fired off some manual snipes--when I hit the "back to item description" link, it would took me to an eBay log-in page with someone else's user name filled in. All three times, though, it was a different user name. It had me concerned--but at least I know it was happening to alot of other people as well--so it was just an eBay foul up.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

This is a database issue. The pointers are directed at the incorrect row record. I've experienced this before with one our applications where when the server is being overwhelmed. This can only be addressed by the folks supporting the eBay web application and server. More than likely, they're working on it right now.

    Welcome to the boards!!!!

What do you collect? This can be a fun place to learn and "debate" your favorite issues.

    Merry Christmas

  • Thanks Stone!! I collect the Munson and Mantle masters (just doing an el cheapo mantle, I'll take anything from PSA from a 1 on up on any card) the Mattingly Basic in 9 or better and I'm trying to assemble an 8 or better set of all Topps Yankees cards from 70-79... I also buy graded rookie cards of the stars of my youth (mid 70s to early 80s) mainly just for sentimental reasons..

I've learned a lot in the time I've been scanning this board, and look forward to giving my occasional 2 cents on these often fun and informative threads!

    Merry Christmas!
