Just did a guy a favor on Ebay, and he'll probably never know it.

Fellow had listed an 1881-CC Morgan MS64, with an opening bid of $79, and a buy-it-now, of $99. That was clearly an error, as this is a $500 coin. I bid the opening $79, to take out the $99 B-I-N. Saved him the trouble of another buyer, trying to nail him to the wall.

Damn, I missed it!
Another "estate sale" from Florida.....wonder how much they ripped it for to start with?
Mark, I think your biggest service to them was announcing it here as I am sure that will drive them increased traffic they wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
I have a feeling by not taking the BIN price, though it drives the market, it also leaves out any potential profit margin for some others. I have sold many coins way under market value (some to collectors who are very happy, some to dealers who are very happy). I will happily start a 500 dollar coin at a penny with NO RESERVE. I like the excitement of hundreds of people viewing and taking part in the process on ebay. Incidentally, my profit margin is NOWHERE near what some of our friendly dealers have. but.... They must have a larger profit margin to stay in business.
I commend you for your kindness, however I personally would have snatched that one right up at a hundy.
<< <i>Well Mark, that was honorable what you did, but what of the days of SWOOPING down on the PREY. Atocha does a good business, always. He's got some great stuff and has been on my favorites list since a couple of years ago. I am sure he would have been happy to make his 30% profit at a hundred. He knows what he's doing.
