Question about ebay scams.

I get a ton of fake ebay emails asking me to log in. What are they trying to do with my ebay account? They can't steal money from me since Paypal had the funds. All they can do is list stuff or bid on items, both of which can be traced and undone.

Am I missing something?

  • I believe your bank account info is also in your account if you are registered as a seller.

they could purchase items under your account. also they could get sensitive info like CC on file etc I presume.

They could sell bogus items under your name and pocket the dough.

    Good for you.

No it can't. I just read on the ebay forums of an account that was hijacked. The owner of the account owes ebay about $115 for listing and final value fees. Ebay says it will check into it and may credit it back. But in the meantime, the account owner has to pay. The hijacker had the money sent to him (money order) in a foriegn country - ain't nobody going to track that sucka down. In addition, the buyer doesn't care about anything but receiving the item they bought. For sure they'll leave a big fat neg FB.

As a seller, I don't want my account hijacked...

If you change something on your account, doesn't ebay send you a notification? Also I believe CC information is blanked out.

Also if stuff was listed under his id, wouldn't he get a notice sent to him that an auction started?

Maybe I'm giving the scammers too much credit, but that scam seems like a waste of time.
