What do you guys think?

Im sure his personal reasons for staying in school he made the right choice for himself but from a financial standpoint did he cost himself big bucks? Whether or not he has a big game against Texas I think last year he would have been clearly # 1 but this coming draft Im not sure.

He would have been #1 in my opinion, but money isn't everything.

Leinart will get drafted by a crappy team and spend the first few games laying on his backside. Its how well he deals with it that will
determine if he will ever do anything.

I can think of sooooo many busts over the past years with QB's taken early. The game is just completly different. He won't be lining up
against Washington St, or the Beavers, this is the NFL, guys will eat him for lunch. I don't think he is top 5 material.

I think so. Simply put, it's one less year he can spend in the NFL making money. He didn't need any maturation, and winning national title(s) and the heisman is the pinnacle of a college football career. Money isn't everything, but I never really understood the decision... plus the slim chance of him getting a career ending injury in college was still real. And hell isn't he taking ballroom dancing for college credit?!

Let's put things into perspective here:

-He's still going to be among the top 3 picks (likely #2)
-He was coming off a heisman trophy and national title - why not go another round?
-He's still going to make a TON of money, even at 'just' #3
-He didn't want to play for the 49ers (can you blame him?) and thought another team might suck worse this year
-He was the BMOC at USC, so why not (a) get a degree and (b) be the big man for another year?

There are countless reasons why he stayed, and he hasn't cost himself hardly any money at all, he is going to graduate, and he will get paid.

I hate to sound like a pig, but if any of you have seen a recent "Girls of the Pac 10" in Playboy, I can think of another reason to stay around and be Big Man On Campus another year. image ........sorry

On a serious note, money isn't everything. That's true. It was a personal decision he made and I wish more guys would do it. But I'm sure he did cost himself some money (factoring in a couple spot drop in draft picks and one less year in the NFL). The difference could be say, $10 million, which sounds like a lot. But there's not a lot of difference really between $60 million and $70 million.

  • No he did not hurt himself at all. He will still be picked in the top 3 and make millions, so he is still a winner. Plus he may possibly go into the draft as the only quarterback to win 3 straight college footbal championships, and depending on his perfromance in that game, he could be worth even more.

Separate from all of this, it was his personal decision to make and not everyone bolts for the money in their second year of college.
  • JMO, but a top-tier O-lineman would be a much better value, esp. for the Texans, who will most likely get the first selection.....but you can't pass on him or Bush, I guess.

I would almost think that the Texans would trade down, and pick up another draft pick.
