It looks clear that the number 3 registry of the 1966 sold last week on Mastronet. There were 29 PSA 10's sold individually and 11 more sold in a group. There have been 128 graded a PSA 10 from that year, so over 30% of all 1966 PSA 10's were on the block. A group of 39 low pops and 11 more really low pops (all PSA 9) sold for just under $17,000 before the juice. With the 17.5% these card went for nearly $400 each. There were no big stars in the group of 50.
If anyone has followed the registry on this set they know that #1 and #2 have had bidding wars that make sellers rejoice. Neither one will show their cards on the registry in order to prevent the other from placing bids just to jack up the price. The #1 in the registry got stuck with so many cards when he intended to just put in nuisance bids that he started another set that is in the top 10 or so.
I collect 1966's and in the mid-teens on the registry. Just curious to see if there are any other 1966 fans out there.
All totaled the whole collection went for just under $84,000 before the vig. I thought that the seller was nuts to sell it in such big chunks, but I was wrong.
It will be very interesting in the next six weeks when these cards are in the hands of their new owner(s) of the registry looks like.
