Opinion needed on 50's & 60's stars.

Question, Are 50's and 60's stars worth grading?. Mostly midgrade, 4-6 range, in terms of resale on ebay/shows or I am better off selling raw? Anyone ever do the math and figure Smr 4, 5, 6 vs. Beckett Vg/Ex, Ex, Ex/Mt, etc.............? Anyone have experience in selling to some of these guys that advertise in Smr, Was it a good experience? Do they buy at quoted rates? Is that a fair price or am I better off on ebay. I have 100% + seller feedback and a good reputation so that is not an issue. I could really use some help here, as I am contemplating this. Thanks.

    1) Yes 1950's and 1960's stars are worth grading if they pull at least a PSA 6. However wait for a grading special. The $12 rate is not worth it for mid-range cards. I've sold raw and graded on ebay, the graded cards always pull in more cash, but the net profit may not be as good due to the grading fees.

    2) The dealers that advertise in SMR will pay decent money only for a very few specific items - High grade HOF's, tobacco cards, rare cards, etc. It really depends how fast you need the money, if you have the time, you are better off on ebay or Naxcom. If you need it tomorrow, I would try to sell to other people on this board, you will probably get more than a dealer, but less than ebay.

These stars would make great secret santa gifts, even if not graded. See my other post.

You should try searching completed ebay auctions to see what the exact cards you have are selling for in various PSA grades. Not all 2000 cards of course, but pick 10 or so of the stars, decide what you think they'll grade, and see what they're selling for.

My personal opinion? I've had a lot of luck buying stars from the 1950s in PSA 5 for 25%-33% of the high beckett value, and my beckett is about 3 years old. To me, that's a steal (from a buyer's perspective).
