White Sox get Vazquez....

The White Sox have apparently traded Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez, Luis Vizcaino, and outfield prospect Chris Young to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Javier Vazquez. Link.

I have to admit, I am surprised. Yesterday, the rumors were that the Sox were going to give up either Garland or Contreras to obtain Vazquez. I prefer giving up El Duque and Vizcaino over either of the other two. Young is supposed to be a future superstar, but with the depth of our outfield prospects, I'm not too concerned. Although, there is always that worry that you're giving up the next Griffey.

Where are we going to put all these starting pitchers? With Buerhle, Garcia, Contreras, Garland, and now Vazquez, where does that leave McCarthy?

I give Williams some credit for making some strong moves with the acquisition of Thome and now Vazquez. Nice potential, I hope it works out.

I'm sure we all feel for the White Sox. image I think 29 other teams would love to have this problem. Anyway, if Vazquez can live up to his potential, this will once again be one of the top (if not top) raotations in the AL and MLB.

BTW fellas, what has it been like in Chi-town after the Sox won? I have heard that the city is basically divided between Cubs/Sox, but do not know of hatred like the RedSox/Yanks ...

Jealousy? Arguments? Are Cubs fans upset that the Sox won?

This is the stuff that I am curious about, as I only know one person out there - she has been a Sox fan, while her parents are Cubs fans. Talking to her, they rooted for the Sox but I got the feeling they were an exception

Heh, my Cubs buddies have been very quiet. image Kenny Williams wanted to enter 2006 with 6 starters so McCarthy is in. If he can't resign Garland (still not sold on him) and/or Hernandez then this trade makes sense. Hated to see Young go. He might swing a trade for either Garland or Hernandez later in the year.

    1. As a Cubs fan, I am actually quite upset about the attention the White Sox have received. Within a week of winning the WS, the White Sox have been barely mentioned on sports radio here. It has been all Bears. Jeez, it's only been about 1000 years since they won......you would expect more attention.
    2. Jealousy - not really from the Cubs side. One thing to remember is that Sox fans in general hate Cubs fans, but the reverse is not always true. If anything, one has seen more arrogance from the north side with comments like "How did they win? It should have been us"
    3. Arguments? - I'm sure many exist and are probably silly

Actually, many Cubs fans supported the Sox in the WS, but did not jump on any bandwagon. I, for instance, was happy to see the White Sox win since it has been such a long time coming for the city of Chicago, but did not really feel as some long term life goal had been accomplished.

Now, if the Cubs won (BIG "IF"), then I would probably be on cloud 9 for several years. That is different than most Wrigley fans, who are on cloud 9 most of the season since they are too drunk to notice how bad the team has been lately.

Very well put. I am in the same sentiments as you are. I also feel that of the 30,000 at Wrigley on a given day, I am one of 2-3000 actually watching the game. But hey, lately they have been spending the money and trying to build a team. Hats off to the Sox, Ozzie did one hell of a job.

    One more thing...

The Sox won it how it is good to see a team win it. No Superstars. An all around team effort with guys that just gelled. It is a great story. It is so refreshing to see a team win that doesn't owe money on the luxury tax or be one of 3 or 4 teams to consitently land money free agents. In the same vein, I woul have liked to see the Indians pull off the win, but the Sox wouldn't have it.

Having been both a cubs and sox fan since the 50's, got to see Roy Campenella and Warren Spahn pitch in Wrigley, I would disagree with the fact that the sox have been off the radar. I listen to two Chicago sports radio shows at work and they get a lot of play and also on Comcast Sports channel TV. I quit listening to WGN years ago.
